Women’s Bantamweight Super Fight added to UFC 300
Dana White has dropped a bombshell announcement that no one saw coming and feeds new life into the women’s bantamweight division as well as spices up UFC 300.
In what can only be called a massive surprise the UFC has signed two time Olympic Judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison. The former PFL Women’s Lightweight champion will make her promotional debut against another accomplished female combat sports veteran, former UFC Women’s Bantamweight and multiple time women’s Boxing world champion Holly Holm. The fight will be Harrison’s first at 135 lbs.
The biggest part of the story is that no one knew Harrison was even a free agent. Harrison had been linked to rumors of a fight against Cris Cyborg now that PFL & Bellator merged.
The announcement is a shot into the arm of a division that saw at UFC 297 the vacant title won by Raquel Pennington in a contest many pundits voiced their displeasure with.
In November Harrison fought for the first time in a year defeating UFC veteran Aspen Ladd by unanimous decision. Holm is owner of one the biggest upsets in MMA history knocking out Ronda Rousey at UFC 193. “The Preacher’s Daughter” has won three of her last four fights including a second decision win over current champion Raquel Pennington.
Number thirteen ranked Featherweight contender Sodiq Yusuff puts his ranking on the line against Mexico’s Diego Lopes.
