Bellator Championship Series Paris Results, Mix puts first Defense on Scoreboard

A successful defense in the books but not the domination the newly engaged Mix had envisioned.

The Accor Arena in France hosted the Bellator Championship Series: Paris for a ten-fight card. The headliner a battle for the Bellator Bantamweight Title.

It was a close call, but the Bellator Bantamweight title will remain with Patchy Mix.  The fight was a contrast from the first meeting with Magomed Magomedov, this time the Russian fighter looked to engage Mix on the feet.

Many split decisions have swing rounds, the rounds that could have gone either way. The most pivotal round of the fight would be the first. Mix opened an early lead with low kicks, left hooks, and jabs. Magomedov staggered Mix back with left hand coming over top Mix’s guard. The Magomedov power punches paying off in the second and fourth rounds. Mix almost repeated history with an arm-in guillotine in the third, the say way he won their first meeting. Seeing the 5th round for the 2nd time in his career, Mix stifled Magomedov’s offense pinning him on the fence and pumping his jab the final minute.

The champion after celebrating with his fiancé Tatiana Saurez the top contender in the UFC Women’s Strawweight division, called his shot for his next defense to come against Leandro Higo. The Brazilian fighter had weighed in as a backup for the fight and has won five of his last six.

Frech star Cedric Doumbe is back in the win column and has his first big MMA fight in sights. Doumbe scored his 6th knockout win and 4th in the first round stopping leel Wills. Willis flew out of his corner bringing the fight right to Dumbe. Willis courageously exchanging in the pocket with the former kickboxing world champion wrapping a right hook around Willis guard. Doumbe would follow up on the knockdown with a flurry of strikes that was unrelenting forcing a standing TKO. After the co-main former UFC & WEC Lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis was brought in the cage facing off with Doumbe and saying we would take the fight in Paris.

Costella Van Steenis has earned the next crack at the Bellator Middleweight title after submitting Gregory Babene. Van Steenis took Babene to the mat early smothering for most of the first round. The Van Steenis takedown in the second was met by a guillotine. On the mat Van Steenis found his counter locking in a Von Flue choke putting Babene to sleep. “The Spaniard’s” 7th submission win has earned him the best fight of his career. The 31-year-old will attempt to dethrone reigning Middleweight champion Johnny Eblen.
