BKFC 61 Results, Rivera out points Straus

The fastest growing combat sport in the world once against made history breaking new ground with the first sanctioned Bare-Knuckle event in Connecticut.

The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville hosted BKFC 61. The 10-fight card is headlined by a Featherweight contest pitting UFC vet Jimmie Rivera against former Bellator champion Daniel Straus. win

The score cards were somewhat scattered, but the Judges were unanimous in seeing the main event in favor of “El Terror” Jimmie Rivera. Dipping low and getting on the inside the body work of Rivera was the talk of the early part of the fight. Once Straus was able to get his economical counter striking going in in the middle of the fight it did damage cutting Rivera in two spots over his left eye and causing major swelling under. Rivera countering by picking up the pace and continuing to pressure.

A return to the win column for Rivera coincides with a return to the Featherweight decision where the New Jersey fighter has battled number three ranked Howard Davis to a draw.  Formerly ranked in the UFC’s Bantamweight division with experience of having fought three former world champions and wins in his last two Featherweight fights Rivera feels this win puts him in place to challenge the winner of the upcoming Featherweight title fight at BKFC 62.

The featherweight rankings could see some movement after number five ranked Louie Lopez moved up a weight class on short notice giving Mike Trizano a dance partner for his debut. It was a brave choice but one the normally very durable Lopez might regret as his appetite for damage was quickly filled overzealously chasing down Trizano and walking into a left hook for the one punch finish.

A title shot could be on the horizon for Ryan Reber who collected his sixth win in the promotion in a technical thrashing of a game Anthony Foye. It was two thudding punches for judo Olympian Rick to secure a first round TKO. And it was a left hook from Zack Calmus that put down Connor Mckenna for a third consecutive win to ignite talks of being part of a title elminator.
