Judges Split, Usyk Undisputed

David overcame Goliath in a bout of epic proportions that lived up to the fights immense hype.

For the first time since 1999 Boxing’s Heavyweight division has an undisputed world champion. Oleksandr Usyk overcame a 38 lb. weight disadvantage to hand Tyson Fury his first professional loss. The victory was nearly a knockout as Usyk nailed Fury with a left hand that had the 6’8” giant in survival more.

“The Gypsy King” relying on the ropes to stay in the ring during the last 30 seconds of the 9th round. Usyk unloading for the finish as Fury staggered about. The lineal Heavyweight champion was saved by a timely call from the ref intervening for a ten-count as Usyk was clearly lining up a right hand with Fury stuck in a corner.

The incredible recuperative powers of Fury doing the job to get him to the finish line. The judges returned a split decision (114-113 Fury, 114-113 &115-112 for Usyk). History has been made by Oleksandr Usyk who in 2018, 15-fights into his pro career become the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion of the world & seven fights later is a two division Undisputed World Champion.

The original contract between Fury & Usyk is a two-fight deal. The rematch slated for October 12th in Riyadh, Saudi Arbia.
