
Abraham Perez out of Top Rank Fight with Matt Griego
It’s fight week in Albuquerque. Saturday night Top Rank Boxing will be at the Tingley Coliseum but the fight local fans have been most excited for is no longer happening.
Monday morning Top Rank representation announced “The “Duke City Civil War” fight at Tingley Coliseum between flyweights Abraham Perez and Matthew Griego – scheduled for this Saturday — has been canceled due to a training injury suffered by Perez. Additional word about a replacement opponent has been found for Griego will be announced in due course”.
Rick Wright of the Albuquerque Journal is reporting that “was swimming in the family’s backyard pool on Friday, tapering his training for the fight, when he passed out”.
Sources close to the Griego camp have said the camp and Top are diligently working on a replacement opponent. “Diamond Boy” was last in the ring a year ago scoring a second round knockout of Merlito Sabillo running his record to 14-0.
The ESPN main event of this Saturday’s card will see Burque’s own Angelo Leo look to win a world title in a second weight class when he challenges Luis Alberto Lopez IBF Featherweight championship.
