
Dahlen Wilson digs Deep to outlast James Romero at FightWorld 38
On paper the win streak is five in a row but Dahlen Wilson considers himself 1-0 on his restart.
Wilson was victorious the moment he stepped in the cage nearly dying the last time he attempted to make Welterweight.
The start to Wilson’s journey as a Middleweight could have gone better. Wilson sent most of the first five minutes of the FightWorld 38 main event with James Romero on his back hunting a for a choke. Wilson reversed the momentum in the second holding top position from side control. Romero and Wilson would exchange top position in third. Wilson edging out the third on the strength of powerful right hands In the clinch.
The co-main event was an absolute barn burner. Henry Barahona took the lead early strong together combinations finishes by leg kicks pushing Windham back. Barahona even took down the five-time state champion in wrestling. Windham adjusted his attack over the final ten minutes sticking his jab and smashing home high kicks. The Windham power garnering the judges favor over the Barahona volume.
The southpaw stance of Seldon Wright took a moment for Mark Hussey to adjust to. Wright landing his straight left putting Hussey on his back foot. Hussey made the adjustment 90 seconds in to attack with high kick from his power side. The kicks allowed Hussey to take over the lead and start apply the pressure. On his back foot Wright’s defense started to falter. Hissey’s lead hook and straight right forcing Wright back. As a waiver of offense was coming at Wright a right hook found his chin. Hussey ground strikes put a finishing touch on the technical knockout.
A trilling four minute affair opened up the main card with Iyean Varela submitting Daniel Gonzales in the first round. Varela found his over early and then went in for his takedown. After escaping a Gonzales guillotine attempt Varela went from on top to snatching the arm in a heartbeat. An armbar firing the tap.
Jon Merino took full advantage of the showcase in the final amateur bout of the night. Merino continually forced Sterling Woods in the clinch battering Woods body with knees. Out in space Merino landed fast combinations of punches. Merino took Woods who’s known for his gas tank into deep waters with a relentless pace in the clinch.
Brendan Johnson came out on fire catching Isaiah Garcia with a flurries of hooks. Garcia cliched and chain wrestled Johnson down. Garcia was able to trap Johnson right arm softening him up with punches. Frantic to get out of the predicament Johnson gave his back. Garcia taking advantage sinking in a rear naked choke for the first round finish.
Roman Ulibarri took down Alister MacDonald right off the bell. In a get up attempt Ukibarri jump on MacDonald’s neck snatching up a guillotine force the tap in the first round.
Leonard Ellison showed major heart getting wobbled in the second and third rounds, but kept his composure to scrambling his way back into control. Elision’s top game was highlighted by doing damage from half guard.
Elijah Lucero started that card with a narrow split decision win over Alejandro Garcia on the strength of slick counter striking in deciding third round.
