Middleweight Title Fight Headlines UFC 319 in the Windy City
Dricus Du Plessis will put his Middleweight title on the line for the third time in August.
Khamzat Chimaev will challenge Dricus Du Plessis for his UFC Middleweight Championship in the main event of UFC 319 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on August 16th.
Du Plessis dethroned Sean Strickland by narrow decision at UFC 297. At UFC 305 DDP posted his first successful defense submitting former Champion Israel Adesanya. At UFC 312 the South African champion took all doubt from those who questioned his win over Sean Strickland who did it again, this time by a much wider margin. Running his record to 9-0 inside the octagon.
Chimaev grabbed the imaginations of fans when he won three fights in his first three months under a UFC contract. In those first three first Chimaev competed twice as a Middleweight before committing to welterweight. His body would only last two weight cut before not being able to make weight. Back at Middleweight Chimaev has won a majority decision over former Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman, who took the fight on days’ notice. And crushed the jaw of former Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker with a face crank.
