New Lightweight Champion will be Crowned at UFC 317
The UFC Lightweight title is vacated but it won’t be for long.
It was well known that the UFC 315 main event was a large domino in the future of reigning Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. With Jack Della Maddelena having dethroned Belal Muhammad many expected that Islam would want to move up in weight. While the date is not set that dose appear to be the UFC’s plan.
Islam Makhachev will not be holding up the Lightweight division as he’s vacating the title, news that came from Dana White and was first reported by ESPN. June 28th in the main event of UFC 317 a new Lightweight champion will be crowned when former Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, who vacated his title to move up to Lightweight faces the all-time leader in submissions in UFC history, former Lightweight champion Charles Oliveria.
In the co-main event Alexandre Pantoja looks to defend the UFC Flyweight championship for the fourth when he’s challenged by New Zealand’s Kia Kara-France. At Middleweight former title challenger, number twelve ranked Brazilian Paulo Costa faces number fourteen ranked surging Russian Roman Kopylov. At Lightweight number nine ranked Beneil Daruish meets number ten Renato Micano in bout rebooked from UFC 311. Moicano was elevated to the UFC 311 main event after Arman Tsarukyan suffered a last-minute back injury.
Heavyweight hitting Heavyweight till battle as Brazil’s Jhonata Diniz faces Australia’s Justin Tafa. Plus, the next title challenger at Flyweight could be determined when number one ranked Brandon Royval faces number five ranked Manel Kape. And in Women’s Flyweight action number eight ranked Vivane Araujo squares off against number ten ranked Tracy Cortez. Also, at 185 lbs. catch wrestler Jack Hermansson takes on power punching BJJ black belt Gregory Rodrigues.
