Jon Jones Hangs the Gloves Up

The career of the greatest MMA fighter of all-time has come to an end.

UFC president Dana White made the official announcement at the UFC Baku post fight press conference that Jon Jones has decided to retire.

While his story is filled with controversy. His career was filled with glory. The junior college wrestling standout from upstate New York moved to New Mexico and while his relationship with the state was sometimes infamous it also provided him the opportunity to live in infamy.

When then teammate, Rashad Evans suffered an injury ahead of UFC 128, the journey Jones was on became accelerated as the UFC gave him the fill in role. Jones ran with the opportunity stopping Shogun Rua by 3rd round TKO becoming the youngest UFC champion ever at 23.

“Bones” would successfully defend the UFC Light Heavyweight title right time over a list of hall of fakers before being stripped of the title due to legal issues.

Jones was stripped for the second time when he was interim champion thanks to a failing a PED tear ahead of UFC 200.

In 2018 Jones became the undisputed Light Heavyweight champion for the second time defending it three more times.

After three-years away from fighting Jones returned at UFC 285 up a weight-class capturing the vacant UFC Heavyweight title by submitting Ciryl Gane.

Jones final appearance in the octagon was a dominate third TKO victory over Stipe Miocic, widely considered the greatest Heavyweight in UFC history.

Over the last seven-months the UFC & Jones had speculated about his future while many fans hoped he come back for one more last fight against rising England superstar, Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall.

Jon Jones list of accolades includes a 20-fight unbeaten streak, 16 win in UFC title fights, and a two division champion. Simply put Jon Jones is MMA’s goat.
