UFC Returns to Brazil: Oliveira Headlines Fight Night in Rio

The UFC returned to Brazil for the first time in 17 months with a highly anticipated Fight Night in Rio de Janeiro.

In the main event, former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira fights on home soil for the first time in over five years, facing Poland’s Mateusz Gamrot, who stepped in as a late replacement for the injured Rafael Fiziev.

Currently ranked #4, Oliveira enters the bout just four months removed from a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria. Known as the UFC’s all-time leader in submission victories, the Brazilian fan favorite once again embraces his role as the underdog—something he’s done throughout his career. With the backing of a passionate home crowd, Oliveira looks to defy the odds once more.

Gamrot, a former KSW Lightweight Champion, joined the UFC after dominating the European circuit. Despite a close loss in his UFC debut, the Polish grappler rebounded with a four-fight win streak. After another setback, he returned stronger, adding three more wins to his resume. Fresh off a decision victory over Ľudovít Klein in May, Gamrot aims to silence the Rio crowd and vault himself into title contention.

Also on the card, former Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo put his #6 bantamweight ranking on the line against the surging #15 contender Montel Jackson, who entered the fight riding an impressive six-fight win streak.
