Hammer Perez’s Legacy Continues to Grow in Albuquerque
Albuquerque’s own Abraham “Hammer” Perez delivered a statement performance in front of his hometown crowd, remaining undefeated with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Esnet Domingo to capture the vacant IBF Intercontinental Flyweight Championship. The main event headlined Legacy Boxing’s “The Legacy Continues III” at the Embassy Suites, and Perez left no doubt on the scorecards, sweeping the bout 100-90.
From the opening bell, Perez showcased the tools that have quickly made him one of the most promising rising contenders at flyweight. Utilizing his speed and a sharp, disciplined jab, Perez controlled the distance while landing clean, accurate punches. Domingo, representing the Philippines, looked to answer with power—particularly his 1-2 combination—but Perez’s timing and counterpunching repeatedly disrupted any sustained offense.
The third round saw Domingo attempt to shift momentum by pressing forward and increasing his output. However, Perez calmly adjusted, using ring awareness and crisp counters to halt the surge. His command of positioning and pace ultimately defined the fight, as he dictated exchanges and maintained control throughout all ten rounds.
Following the bout, Perez graded his own performance as an “A-,” a reflection of both his high standards and continued hunger for improvement. Entering the fight ranked No. 15 by the IBF, this victory is expected to propel him significantly up the rankings—potentially into the top five at 112 pounds.
In the co-main event, Josh “Pitbull” Torres made a powerful statement of his own, stopping Gerardo Alberto Fuentes via TKO at 1:01 of the third round. Torres, competing at super welterweight, displayed sharp footwork and a focused body attack early, mixing in heavy shots upstairs to keep Fuentes on the defensive. Despite a low blow warning issued in the second round, Torres remained composed and relentless. The finish came when a perfectly timed uppercut sent Fuentes reeling into the ropes, prompting the referee to step in.
“I took care of business,” Torres said after the fight, a succinct summary of his efficient night in the ring. Fuentes stepped in as a late replacement for Antoine Elerson, but Torres ensured there would be no upset.
The undercard featured several decisive performances, beginning with Christian Cabral’s shutout unanimous decision victory over Eduardo Monrreal (60-54 x3). Angelo Valencia also pitched a clean sweep on the scorecards, defeating Andres Rey (40-36 x3). Elijah Martinez secured a fourth-round TKO over Bryant McClain after sustained pressure forced a referee stoppage at 2:31.
Elsewhere, German Ponce earned a unanimous decision win over Maximus Moya, while Isaiah Aguilar beat Codi Chavez for the second time. Marcelino Delgado rounded out the night with a TKO victory against Jovan Saucedo.
With a new title around his waist and momentum firmly on his side, Abraham Perez continues to build something special in Albuquerque. If this performance is any indication, “Hammer” may soon find himself not just climbing the rankings—but knocking on the door of a world title opportunity.
