PFL Charlotte, Bryan Battle Outworks Dalton Rosta to Claim Hometown Redemption
In front of his hometown crowd, Bryan Battle outworked Dalton Rosta to earn a bit of redemption.
The Middleweight division took center stage at PFL Charlotte, not just in the main event but with three fights featured on the main card.
The stakes were high as both Dalton Rosta and Bryan Battle entered the headliner coming off main event losses. While Rosta was able to push the pace for much of the fight with his wrestling attempts, he was ineffective at damaging Battle, who was the more active fighter and had a couple of big moments, including a slick slamming body kick.
Aaron Jeffery got himself back in the win column, taking a unanimous decision over Josh Silveira. Jeffery was all pressure from the opening bell, opening a cut outside Silveira’s left eye with a slick right elbow in the clinch. After consistently stopping Silveira’s wrestling attempts, Jeffery’s striking dictated the fight and carried him to a convincing decision victory.
Josh Fremd continued his post-UFC hot streak, earning his third consecutive knockout victory by stopping Jhony Gregory in the second round.
The fight of the night was a thriller between Lewis McGrillen and Brandon Lewis. Lewis battled back after being dropped by a McGrillen left hand in the first round. While Lewis remained competitive and opened a cut over his opponent’s right eyebrow, McGrillen’s consistent pressure and balanced striking attack ultimately carried him to the victory.
The eight-fight undercard produced four finishes including three in the first round. Number three ranked Heavyweight contender Denis Goltsov crushed Hasan Mezhiev in under a minute. Goltsov stunned Mezhiev with a right hand to the temple and dropped him with a left kick meeting Mezhiev when he went to change levels for a desperation takedown. In her second appearance in the PFL former LFA champion Cheyanne Bower earned her first win reversing Elora Dana for a rear naked choke win in the first round. Number six ranked Heavyweight Maxwell Django Nana stopped Eduardo Neves in the third round with a an organ destroying left hook to the lever. And UFC alum Trey Waters made a successful PFL debut showing off slick counter striking. A barrage of strikes on the fence forced Truman Carson into wrestling. A Water right hook back Carson off an a right uppercut put him down.
