DCCW Kings Landing: Idol Survives a Night of Chaos while Sky High Reaches Championship Status at the El Rey
Duke City Championship Wrestling brought Kings Landing to a jam-packed El Rey Theater, and the 505 faithful were treated to a night of championship battles, betrayals, surprises and some unforgettable moments.
From title defenses to new challengers emerging, the night had no shortage of action.
Lonzo Romero Pushes Idol to the Limit
The lowrider Lonzo Romero was feeding off the energy of the packed El Rey Theater when he went toe-to-toe with DCCW heavyweight champion and NWA North American Champion Bryan Idol. Romero punched Idol right in the mouth — something the champion loves to do to his opponents — but Idol quickly slowed the pace and began breaking down the challenger. Romero answered with a surge of heavy strikes, threatening to take control of the contest. With the match slipping away, Idol reached deep into his bag of tricks. A timely distraction and a tightly executed ground game allowed the NWA North American Champion to retain his championship.
Alorha Jet Survives First Title Defense
Alorha Jet learned just how true the old adage is: it’s harder to stay champion than it is to win the title. Fresh off capturing the championship, Jet was immediately tested by Taylor Yorke, who brought the fight directly to the new champion. Jet absorbed the pressure before firing back, eventually putting Yorke away with a massive elbow to the back of the head. The first defense was successful, but Jet knows the challengers are already beginning to mount.
Sky High Soars to Tag Team Gold
Sky High rose to championship class, but not before having to deal with an unexpected passenger. Charlie 50 arrived at the El Rey Theater alone, carrying both Chile Tag Team Championships. Invoking the Three Bird Rules, Charlie introduced Burque to his replacement partner, Aaron Harmes. The hard-hitting oil worker made quite the first impression, but the night belonged to Sky High. The West Texas combination showed a lack of familiarity with one another, and Sky High capitalized on every opening. Once the momentum started rolling, Sky High took to the air and soared to a breakthrough championship victory.
Hobo Hank Ruins Kings Landing for the King
Hobo Hank ruined Kings Landing for King Trevor Murdock. The King learned what happens when you try to colonize the 505 — you get a face full of armpit. Murdock pushed the match to its breaking point, and with the referee down, the King reached for a royal chain. Hobo Hank had other plans. Hank took the King’s weapon, along with his majesty’s jewels, and unloaded with a haymaker that left Murdock down for the count. The King was left looking like one of the many drunks who have been rolled in downtown alleys.
Vile Freak Show Steals a Victory
A blast of magic helped the Vile Freak Show score a victory over the duo of Antoine Giovanni and Ronin. The power and speed combination of Antoine Giovanni and Ronin created major problems for the Mystic tandem. Giovanni and Ronin struggled to maintain control as the Valk Vile & Mister Happy kept the pressure on. A timely distraction from Tommy Test drew Giovanni’s attention, leaving Ronin on his own. In a frantic attempt to get back into the ring, Giovanni exposed himself and ran directly into a pinfall, giving the Vile Freak Show the victory.
Giovanni Gets His Revenge
Giovanni wouldn’t let Tommy Test’s involvement go unnoticed.Later in the night, Test put Thunder in a crossface with the Route 66 Championship on the line. With Giovanni occupying the referee’s attention, Ronin pounced. The ongoing feud has now reached the point where DCCW owner Fred Slow has had enough. Slow announced that on November 6, Tommy Test and Antoine Giovanni will settle their differences in a Tables Match at Table for Two.
4Sale Finally Finds His Groove
After being deceived and double-crossed by his entire army, 4Sale finally appears to be finding his groove — thanks to his last remaining soldier.Jakob East was on the verge of pulling off a massive upset when Chelsea stepped in and slapped some sense back into the former DCCW Champion.With his game face on, 4Sale quickly turned the tables on East and sent him heading south, scoring the three-count.
Sancho Martinez Earns Route 66 Title Shot
The Route 66 Championship picture gained another challenger as Sancho Martinez outlasted seven other wrestlers to become the last man standing in an eight-person Battle Royal.The match also featured the in-ring debut of Luna, a familiar face to New Mexico wrestling fans who previously worked as a backstage interviewer with NWA New Mexico. Martinez survived the chaos and earned himself a shot at the Route 66 Championship.
With new champions being tested, challengers emerging and rivalries reaching their boiling point, Kings Landing proved once again that in DCCW, nobody stays on the throne for long.
