Jorge Tovar Stays Undefeated, Katherine Lindenmuth Captures WIBA Title at Ring Wars 23
This past Saturday night El Pasoans and visitors alike were treated to an exciting night of boxing at Ring Wars 23 which featured eight bouts put on by King Promotions.

The main event featured 8 rounds with one of El Paso’s favorite fighters as super middleweight Jorge “El Jaguar” Tovar (15-0) won a unanimous decision over Ulices “El Toro” Tovar-Rivera (12-5, 7 KOs) of Guanajuato, Mexico. El Jaguar had his work cut out for him as Tovar-Rivera kept him on his toes and landed a few well-connected blows—however—El Jaguar did not back down and connected his own punches while keeping up consistent and intense pressure on Tovar-Rivera to win the night. El Jaguar remains undefeated and in the post fight comments said, “El Paso, I am going to work hard and keep putting in the hard work—always!”
In the co-main event New Mexico fighter Katherine “La Güera Pistolera” Lindenmuth (8-5) defeated Nayeli “La Bikina” Rodriguez (7-2-1) for the WIBA flyweight title in a tough bout that went to a split decision. The scorecards went 96-64 for Rodriguezs whike the other two saw it 97-93 and 96-94 for Lindenmuth.
Lindenmuth kept pushing the envelope throughout the 10 rounds and her intense barrages in the late rounds were factors in her win over Rodrigues.
“I think it was great,” said Lindenmuth after the fight. “Nayeli pushed me so hard—it could have gone both ways.”
For her part Rodrigue said in a post fight interview, “Not my best performance but I thought I could pull it off—at the end of the day the judges are going to give it to who they believe they are going to give it to—I’m just honored to share the ring with Kat.”
Kirtland, New Mexico, junior middleweight fighter Elijah “Blue” Martinez said at Friday’s weigh in “I am doing me” and he did by putting on a good performance against his opponent Victor Aranda (2-0) but ultimately lost by a split decision. On two scorecards Aranda won —60-54 and 58-56 while one scorecard had Martinez 58-56. Martinez drops to 7-2 and Aranda improves to 8-0.
A tough night for super flyweight Austin Lewis of Albuquerque who was defeated by fellow New Mexican D’Angelo Sanchez of the City of Crosses (Las Cruces) at 2:08 in round 1 by referee stoppage after a knockdown. Sanchez had a vocal following with a few New Mexico State t-shirt wearing fans peppered in the crowd cheering him on. Lewis said of the bout, “Not my night.” Sanchez advances to 5-1 after winning the rematch and Lewis drops to 1-3.
Results for the rest of the card are as follows:
Cruiserweight Dominic Barry (11-0-1) defeated Gustavo Brizuela of Argentina (9-5) in a majority decision. Two judges’ score cards scored the fight 77-75 for Barry and one card had a draw —76-76.
In bantamweight action Katherina Thandarez of Spain by way of Oslo, Norway (16-2) —¡Viva Espana!–-defeated Michaele Nogue (2-8-1) of Queens, NY by decision.
Another El Paso crowd favorite Pedro “El Pantera” Rodarte defeated Davion Edwards of Fort Worth, TX by knockout in the first round in a lightweight bout. Rodarte advances to 3-0 and Edwards drops to 0-3-1.
Hailing from Dallas, Texas bantamweight Alexis Araiza-Mones (5-2-1) won by unanimous decision (40-36 all cards) over veteran fighter Crystal Hoy (7-15-1) of Las Vegas, NV in the first bout of the night.
