UFC Vegas 120, The Next Australian Superstar Has Arrived
In his first UFC headliner, Quillan Salkilld made a massive statement by submitting Polish grappler Mateusz Gamrot.
Salkilld got off to a quick start, stinging Gamrot with a laser-like left hook. Gamrot took the fight to the ground and immediately attacked with a heel hook. Salkilld shocked many by reversing the position, taking Gamrot’s back and securing a rear-naked choke.
The win should propel the 26-year-old into the lightweight division’s top 10.
Diego Ferreira won a unanimous decision over Billy Quarantillo in the co-main event. It was the Brazilian’s mix of powerful striking and big takedowns that led him to his first win in two years.
Alexia Thainara scored the biggest win of her career, defeating former title challenger Amanda Lemos by unanimous decision. Thainara’s physical dominance in the clinch allowed her to wear down Lemos and open a cut along her fellow Brazilian’s hairline.
In the main-card opener, Ty Miller improved his UFC record to 2-0. The New Mexico welterweight showcased strong takedown defense and sharp, accurate boxing. A straight-right knockdown in the second round set the stage for the same shot to crumble Billy Ray Goff seconds into the third. Miller followed with a flurry of strikes to secure the finish.
Once ranked in the top 15, Miles Johns picked up a much-needed victory and his first knockout since 2021. After being sat down by a glancing left hand, Johns quickly recovered and answered with a knockdown of his own before finishing Giovanni Vasquez with heavy ground-and-pound strikes. The victory snapped a three-fight losing streak.
Promising strawweight Carlo Foro made a successful UFC debut, defeating TUF 34 contestant Ravena Oliveira by unanimous decision. Foro survived several tough positions on the ground while showcasing her boxing, punctuated by a vicious body shot that helped swing the fight in his favor.
