We’re on the scene at the Mckernan Event Center fro Chavez/ Crespin Promotions presents Battle at 5 Points a 5 bouts Boxing card; featuring Las Vegas, New Mexico’s Arturo “El Toror” Crespin against Colorado’s undefeated Maurice Louishomme.

Bout 1: Tony Hirsch vs. Kelly Wright

My view- 4-knockdowns thanks to right hands.

Result- Tony Hirsch by TKO (4-knockdowns) 2:04, R1

Bout 2: Jose Osorio vs. Augustine Benegas

My view- A hard fought back and forth brawl that I felt could have went either way. I believe the judges gave it Benegas, because of his tighter defense and the landing of a few more punches.

Result- Augustine Benegas by (39-37, 40-36, 39-37) unanimous decision

Bout 3: Alex Holguin vs. Miguel Armendares

My view- Big punches and a quick put down.

Result- Alex Holguin by KO 0:36, R1

Bout 4: Ranee Ganyo vs. Shawn Gallegos

My view- Gallegos is a tough fight for anyone. Ganyo remained calm, paced himself, picking his punches and countering over the top with power shots. Ganyo won the fight on his 3rd knock-down. The Gallegos corner threw in the towel, as “The Educator” was dazed and badly hurt.

Result- Ranee Ganyo by KO 1:22, R6

Bout 5: Arturo Crespin vs. Maurice Louishome

My view- In the 1st round Crespin did a great job of getting inside on the rangier fighter and worked the body. Both men tested the other chin with clean punches. Starting in the 2nd and on through the 7th “El Toro” would come forward head first. The fighters would clinch on numerous occasions, with both fighters, but mainly Crespin still firing punches into the ref trying to break them. A short left hook made Crespin take a knee but was not called a knock-down, this happened twice. I have never seen a fighter have to guard the back of his head as Louishome had to. To survive Crespin did what he felt he had to do and that was put on the dirtiest performance, I’ve witnessed in my 4 years of covering Boxing in New Mexico. The worst performance of the night was not that of Crespins’,that honor belonged to Referee Rocky Burke, whos continually allowed Crespin to head-butt, excessively clinch, throw punches after being told to break, and landing punches to the back on the head.  In the 6th both fighters lost a point after exchanging 2 punches each, after being told to break. The interesting part is that moments earlier Crespin landed 8 illegal punches and was warned, but  both fighters were penalized like they had been equally bending the rules, which was not the case. Crespin fought dirty and the crowd responded by booing the Las Vegas, NM, native and throwing their support behind the fighter from Colorado, who came in the ring to box. Crespin did come to fight but with all his clinching and shooting for take-downs, looked more like an Mixed Martial Artist. Louishome was standing tall in the pocket as Crespin lunged forward head down, then the action was stopped, as the scare over Crespin’s right eye from head-butts burst open. The doc would take a look at the cut and didn’t stop the fight. Louishome would land again and then the action was stopped with the cutting getting worse. Most people would call that a TKO but the ref announced the cut was caused by a head-butt ; and we would be going to the judges; who thankfully got the decision correct.
