King of the Cage: Split Decision, Two Titles on the Line
On Thursday, August 29, the San Manuel Casino in Highland, California will play host to KOTC: Split decision, featuring two title fights. In the Welterweight division Joshua Aveles (12-9-1) rematches David Gomez (15-5) for the KOTC Welterweight strap. The other title bout is in the Middleweight division with Daniel “El Leon” Hernandez (10-9) looking to dethrone Sean “Tarzan” Strickland (12-0).
David Gomez was the KOTC Welterweight champion until a TKO loss to Sam Liera. Liera would then lose his first title defense to Joshua Aveles by KO. Aveles would then drop a split decision to David Gomez who is the current KOTC Welterweight champion. With a unanimous decision win over Carlos Ortega, Joshua Aveles has earned a rematch.
Daniel Hernandez has won 7 of his last 9 fights to earn a shot at the undefeated champion. Hernandez has 9 of 10 wins by stoppage with 6 of the wins coming by submission. Hernandez is coming off of seeing a 3 fight winning streak ended by a submission loss to Matt lagler. Hernandez had won 3 consecutive bout over Vice Alaalatoa, Kenny Ento, and Johnny Cisneros by submission. Strickland who is coming off a decision win over Yusuke Sakashita. Strickland also holds a win over former TUF competitor Josh Bryant. “Tarzan” had 9 of 12 wins by stoppage and 6 fo the win have come via submission.
Names like Jason Walraven (5-4), Melvin Costa (8-4), Johnny Cisneros (7-2), Jake Mylles (1-1), and Frank Park (3-4) are all expected to be in action.
