Nelson vs. Nogueira Headlines UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi
The UFC has announced that in April the promotion will return to Abu Dhabi for the first time since UFC 112; headlining the event will be a Heavyweight meeting between former Pride and UFC Heavyweight champion Antonio “Minotauro” Rodrigo Nogueira (34-8-1) and TUF season 10 Winner Roy “Big Counrty” Nelson (19-9).
Nogueria an MMA legend has been battling an assortment of injuries over the last several years. Since the beginning of 2010 “Minotauro” in 3-2 with losses to Cain Velasquez (KO), Frank Mir (SUB), and most recently to Fabricio Werdum (SUB); while scoring victories over Brendan Schaub (KO) and Dave Herman (SUB).
After a uanimous decision loss to Fabricio Werdum, Nelson would go on a tear knocking out Dave Herman, Matt Mitrione, and Cheick Kongo; before back to back decision losses to Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
This return to Abu Dhabi is part of the UFC’s world expansion. The promotion is looking to start and Ultimate Fighter Series out there and will also be holding event in the region more frequently, with 5 events expected to take place in the next 2 years.
UFC Fight Night 39 (Abu Dhabi) will be on April 11 taking place at the Yas Island Event Center.
