Alvarez Concussed, Brooks Faces Chandler for Interim Strap
Bellator can not catch a break a, as the promotion is on it’s second attempt at presenting, there first pay per view event; which for the second time is seeing one of it headliners with draw due to injury.
A concussion suffered while in preparation for the completion of an epic trilogy with Michael Chandler (12-1) is how Eddie Alvarez (23-5) the reigning Bellator Lightweight champion got injured.
Bellator MMA has announced filling the void will be Will Brooks (13-1) who was in line to fight the Alvarez -Chandler III winner. Brooks will take on Chandler in a co-main event, interim Lightweight title bout. Serving as the new Bellator 120 main event, moved up from co-main event status is the Light Heavyweight tournament final match between Quintion “Rampage” Jackson and Muhammd “King Mo” Lawal.
Brooks had already been scheduled to fight at Bellator 120 meeting Nate Jolly (13-5), who Belllator officials are looking for an opponent for. Brooks won the season 9 Lightweight tournament defeating John Alessio, Saaad Awad, and Alexander Sarnavsky; all by unanimous decision.
Chandler is looking to get gold back around his waist coming off a split decision loss, that gave Alvarez back the belt Chandler had taken two and half year earlier.
Its also been announced that the season 10 Heavyweight tournament final of Blagoi Ivanov (11-0) vs. Alexander Volkov (21-4) has been moved from the prelims to the pay per view main card.
Bellator 120 on May 17 takes place at the Landers Center, in Southhaven, Mississippi.
