On his facebook page former King of the Cage champion Angelo “The San-I Warrior” Sanchez (12-6) has announced that he will be facing Brian Castillo (3-4-0, 1 nc) on December 6, at Triple A MMA XI: Destiny; at the Camel Rock Casino.
At the time of writing this article, I was unable to get confirmation of this match-up from Orthrus Promotions.
Santa Fe, New Mexico’s, “The San-I Warrior” trains at Luttrell’s MMA and Albuquerque Kickboxing & MMA. Since a 4 fight win streak, Sanchez has found himself in a 3 fight skid losing unanimous decisions to Ray Borg and to Gabriel Benititez; and suffering a TKO due to cut loss to Desmond Green at Bellator 105. The bout vs. Benititez in my opinion is a candidate for 2014 New Mexico fight of the year.
El Paseo, Texas’s, Castillo also comes into this bout looking for his first win in 2014 coming off a TKO loss to Javier Minjarez. At King of the Cage: Throwdown in April in Las Cruces Castillo thought he defeated John Rozema, but after further review the fight was changed to a no contest after the knees that finished the fight where deemed illegal; because Rozema was a downed a opponent. Castillo’s last win came in July of 2013, scoring a unanimous decision win over Matt Hunt at Rocktagon MMA 28.
