What You Need To Know About Triple A MMA XI: Destiny
Orthrus Promotions will be at the Camel Rock Casino this Saturday, December 6th, to present Triple A MMA XI: Destiny; featuring the final MMA fight for Santa Fe’s own former King of the Cage Champion Angelo “The San-I Warrior” Sanchez.
As had been rumored Sanchez (12-6) will face Brian Castillo (3-4-0, 1nc) in the nights feature fight at Featherweight. Sanchez a long time staple of the New Mexico fight scene has lost his last 3 fight, with the most recent, a unanimous decision loss to Gabriel Benitez being a 2014 Fight of the Year Candidate. Castillo will be looking to rebound from a TKO loss to Javier Minjarez.
A late addition to the card will see TUF season 9 alum Frank Lester (8-5) vs. Red Spider MMA’s Randy McCarty (2-4). Lester is taking this fight on short notice but had expected to fight on December 6th at the canceled Sparta Combat League- AVM, debut event in New Mexico. Lester has won his last 3 MMA bouts with 2 submissions and a TKO, but has not had an MMA fight in 26 months. In September Lester made his pro Boxing debut fighting Tim Meeks to a split draw. Breaking dancing machine, Randy McCarty comes into the fight looking to end a 4 fight skid, coming off a TKO, doctor stoppage due to cut loss to Clint Roberts at Triple A MMA VII: Rock Stars.
At Flyweight Luttrell’s MMA’s Jerome Rivera (1-0) faces Bio Dog MMA’s Rudy Kennedy (2-1). Rivera has not fought since March when after a 4-0 amateur run, Rivera made his pro debut submitting Levi Lucero in under 2 minutes. Kennedy who lost his pro debut score consecutive a week part back in September submitting Levi Lucero at Combat Xtreme- Rumble at the Ranch on the 20th and then on the 27th serving a replacement for an injured Jerome Rivera; submitted Joseph Veloz at Triple A MMA IX: Rock Solid.
For the second time in Triple A MMA history the event will feature a 10-minute No-Gi Jiu Jitsu match in the cage between Purple Belts Jesse Tafoya & Estevan Martinez; the only way to win is y submission.
The event will also see at pair of amateur bouts with Fred Rodriguez vs. Fernando Rivera at 245 lbs. & Prudencio Hurbina meets Luis Rizo at 175 lbs.
The free an open to the public weigh-ins for the event will take place at The Fight Shop (6200 Coors Blvd. NW, Suite A-4, Albuquerque, NM 87107); at 2 PM MT on December 5th.
