Lion Fight 54 Recap & Results

The Legends Theatre inside the Route 66 Casino played host to Lion Fight 54, a twelve-fight professional/amateur Muay Thai card.

The main card featured three title bouts, two for North American belts, & one for a world championship.

Nick Gomez vs. Matthew Marshal got the card going by battling into the clinch Gomez, taking advantage of a single collar tie up blasting away with knees to Marshal’s body. The fight would end by first round knockout. Marshal was unable to beat the refs ten-count after being dropped by knees for the second time.

Cameron Wesley vs. Damien Holguine went the distance, with the judges returning a unanimous decision in favor of Holguine, who controlled the fight with pressure and his over right.

Alan Dudo vs. Thomas Horton went into the third where Dudo won by knockout. Dudo won the first round punishing the body. Horton came back in the 2nd round with leg kicks. In the third Dudo used big pressure and a nasty left hook to hurt Horton; scoring the second & final knock down with a left hook right uppercut combination.

Andre Mitchell vs. Jonathan Trujillo. This fight also went the distance with Trujillo early on focusing his attack primarily on the body and legs. In the third round Trujillo switched up his offense going with his boxing and high kicks. The judges would return a shout out on the scorecards in favor of Trujillo.

Sam Martin vs. Swagath Pillai went all three rounds. At long distance Martin continually looked for his teap kick, while Pillai fired off over hand rights. Pillai would initiate the clinch game, but it was Martin, who was more active with his knees & elbows. The judges returned a decision in favor of Martin.

Quentin Deleon vs. Nat Cullison for an amateur Super Flyweight World title wrapped up the amateur portion of the card. Deleon took the lead early with his jab, following up with round house kicks to the body. Deleon’s hands would be crisp, reflecting his Golden Gloves experience. Feeling he was down on the score cards, Cullison would mount a comeback in the third letting his hands go. The final bell would ring with the two in the mitts of a wild exchange that started at the sound of the final 10-second cackler. The judges would return a unanimous decision in favor of Quinten Deleon.

Cody East vs. Joe Stripling at Heavyweight started the main card. Through the first two rounds East stifled Striplin’s offense with his jab and legs kicks. An overhand right from East sent Stripling to the ground in the 2nd round. Stripling, after absorbing East’s best shots, mounted his comeback in the third round, with nonstop pressure, drawing blood from East’s nose. East loses his mouth peace during the forth round and action is stopped. During the time out the doctor is sent in to check a cut over East’s right eye. The action is restarted and East bombed away with big hooks to reestablish control of the fight. During the fifth round East was on his bicycle firing off right hands when Stripling would close the distance. Strpling would get his best work done in close, with dirty boxing and elbows. After five rounds the judges returned a unanimous decision in favor of Cody “The Freight train” East.

 Candice Mitchell vs. Whitney Tobin for the inaugural Lion Fight North American Super Bantamweight title. Mitchelle came out early looking to apply pressure but, it was Tobin finding the space to score. In the third Tobin utilizing her faints scored continually with her combinations; and took control in the clinch. Michelle found her composure in the forth round using long range weapons to nullify Tobin’s attack before it got going. Tobin bit down on her mouth peace and fought into the clinch controlling the fifth round scoring with her knee strikes. After five rounds the judges returned a unanimous decision in favor of Whitney Tobin.

Brett Hlavacek vs. Ardany Mora is the co-main event with the inaugural Lion Fight North American Cruiserweight title up for grabs. The most glaring difference in the fight was the 23 to 5 fight experience advantage that Hlavacek had and utilized. Hlavacek continually fading back to the ropes intercepting Mora’s offense with hacking elbows & chopping leg kicks; while mixing in the occasional hook. Mora to his credit kept pressing forward never backing, but was unable to solve the problems Hlavacek was posing. After five rounds the judges gave us a unanimous decision in favor of Brett Hlavacek.

Amy Pirnie vs. Sandra Godvikis the main event with the Lion Fight World Super Flyweight title on the line. Pirnie went right to testing Godivk, finding the off with left kick to the liver that would have Godvik covering up. Pirnie would swarm with hooks getting the knockdown and Godvik was unable to beat the refs ten-count.

John Seagle vs. Gene Perez started out with both guys testing each other with leg kick. Battling in the clinch Seagle would slice Perez open on his left eyebrow with an elbow.  In the second round Seagle would clinch up with Perez landing repeated tomahawk elbows to the cut over Perez left eye. When they separated Perez waived off the contest due to the cut.

Marc Entenberg vs. Sean Baca is the final fight of the night. A bit of an early feeling out process. Entenberg landed the more damaging offense of the first round focusing on Baca’s lead leg. The second round saw Entenberg continue with the lower body assault scoring two knock-downs off leg kicks. Baca went into the third round noticeably having issues with his right leg. The first leg kick of the third round scored the third Entenberg knock-down. The fifth knock-down from leg kicks would be the final, as Baca couldn’t beat the 10-count. Winner by 3rd round knockout Marc Entenberg.
