UFC Fight Night 162, Maia vs. Askren Quick Results
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore for UFC Fight Night 162. The main event a top 15 welterweight match-up, number 10 ranked contender, Brazil’s Demian Maia squares off with number 11 ranked, American “Funky” Ben Askren.
Maia is the second most winning-est fighter in UFC history with 21 wins, just behind Donald Cerrone who has 23. Maia hasn’t been unable to capture UFC gold, but challenged for the Middleweight crown at UFC 112. Maia is one of the most decorated BJJ practitioners to ever grace the Octagon and has 13 career wins by submission.
Askren is a former Bellator & One welterweight champion, who wrestled in the 2008 Olympics. After retiring from MMA in November of 2017, the man nick named “Funky” for his wrestling style, returned to competition in 2019 for the opportunity to fight in the octagon. In two fights with the promotions Askren has scored a submission win over Robbie Lawler & was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal.
The co-main event will see Michael “The Menace” Johnson return to lightweight for a clash with Scotland’s “Braveheart” Steven Ray.
