Jon Jones finds himself with more legal issues
UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones arrested for a trio of charges early Thursday morning.
The charges are aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm, and possession of an open container. Around 1 am Thursday in Albuquerque, police responded to a call refencing to shot being fired in the area of 3rd St. & Central. The officers found Jones inside his then on vehicle. Signs of intoxication where noticeable. Jones admitted to driving earlier in the evening and to having the intent to drive again. Jones also denied knowledge of the shot fired.
“Bones” reportedly consented to a sobriety test, which didn’t go well. The results of breathalyzer would show Jones at twice the legal limit. Upon searching Jones car, the police found a handgun under the driver’s seat and a partiality drank bottle of Recuerdo behind the passenger seat.
Jones has already been released on bond and is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on April 9th.
Jones had just successfully defended his UFC title on February 8th at UFC 247 beating Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision. And speculation about who his next challenger would be a grown immensely after Jan Blachowicz knocked out Corey Anderson in front of Jones in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 25, at the Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.
Jones is no stranger to issues with the law. In May 2012 Jones crashed a car into a telephone pole and later plead guilty to DUI. In April 2015 Jones was involved in a car crash and left the scene. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle. This led to 18-months of probation and community service. This past July a battery charge from a waitress led to 3-months of probation.
