FightWorld MMA 22 Recap & Results
The Fit NHB Martial Arts Complex in Albuquerque New Mexico hosts FightWorld MMA 22. The all amateur show is headlined by a Light-Heavyweight title blut between Duke City MMA’s Christopher Collins & Desert Dynasty MMA’s Bobby Griego.
Recap–
The night started out twitch a spirited striking affair that saw Armando Valdez (Briggs) defeat Kenneth Fuller (independent ABQ) by unanimous decision as both exchanged big leather.
After feeling it out on the feat for the first round Abraham Garcia (Baca Boys) would put Dalton Quintana (Indy Alamosa) on his back in the third round choking his opponent put by a arm-triangle choke.
Ivan Sanchez (Fit NHB) exchanged combination with Giovanni Rosado (Desert Dynasty MMA) finding success with thudding outside leg kicks. With Rosado back against the cage Sanchez unleashed a flurry of strikes in the clinch forcing the ref to jump in.
Jeff Wharton (Winks Gym) vs. Anthony Camacho (Zen MMA) Is No Contest (after Wharton nails Camacho with a heavy low blow.
Dominic Rivera (Luttrell/Yee) took Leiv Deforresst (Caio Terra Academy, Forrest Grove OR) right to the ground dropping strikes from side controls till the ref jumped in.
Isaac Gutierrez (Fit NHB) jumped right into the pocket exchanging with Jorge Garcia and mixing in his takedowns. Gutierrez would throw Garcia to the ground punches his way to Garcia’s back finishing the fight by rear naked choke in the second.
Angel Rivas (Sandoval Fight Systems) out jabbed Arturo Grandos (Duke City MMA) in the first round drawing blood from Grandos mouth. Late in the second Ribas opened up a flurry while having Grandos caught on the cage throwing till the ref jumped in.
Three rounds of takedowns and control time saw Xavier Marin (Briggs) def. Tomas Merton (Jacksonwink) by unanimous decision
Lyean Varela (Sandoval Fight Systems) survived a couple huge right hands to out scramble Damion Carranza (Briggs) in the second round scoring the TKO by strikes from mount.
Korey Windham (Luttrell/Yee) show off his developing striking game, we’ll also demonstrating striking from the clinch, and still getting a takedown in the third to seal a section win over Vince Garcia (Zen martial arts)
Nathan Fought (JacksonWink) def. Richard Jennings (Desert Dynasty MAM) by split decision with the judges favoring the Fought takedowns and control over the Jennings kicks.
Eric Silva (Fit NHB) def. Jacob Cocaine (Winks Gym) by split decision landing the more significant strikes in particularly his check left hook and right cross.
Ray Vaiza knocks down Tyrel Wisdom with the first punch he throws. A straight right down the middle busting Wisdoms nose open. Wisdom gets in on a double leg takedown. Wisdom goes to advance at the same time Vaiza explodes to escape. Wisdom locks in an armbar. Vaiza escapes the armbar but Wisdom transitions to a triangle choke goes back to attacking the arm and between the two submissions Vaiza taps.
The main event saw Christopher Collins & Bobby Griego battling for the FightWorld MMA amateur Light-Heavyweight championship. Collins has a very successful first round taking Griego down using his ground statics and nearly has a D’arce choke. A headbutt from Collins while in mount at the end of the first should have seen a point deduction, leads to the two being stood by the ref in the final seconds of the first round. Collins immediately takes Griego down again in the second round. After a moment of inactivity the fighters are stood up. Collins shoots for the takedown again but this time two handfuls of cage stops the takedown. Griego stepped back behind Collins to take his back. Threatening the choke Griego has Collins back for the rest of the round. The fight is called 20 seconds later as Collins can’t get to his feet on his own power. Bobby Griego walks away the new FightWorld MMA Amateur Light-Heavyweight champion.
