Pair of Crucial Bantamweight Bouts added to UFC 280

UFC 280 will be a championship doubleheader as they come in a tent will see the bantamweight title on the line.

TJ Dillashaw will attempt to regain the title he never lost from Aljamain Sterling. If you’ll recall Dillashaw was stripped of the title after testing positive for a banned substance. After serving his suspension Dillashaw earnd his way back into contender status with a decision over Cory Sandhagen.

At UFC 251 the company put the vacant title up for grabs in a fight between Yan and José Aldo. Yan would win the belt by 5th round referee stoppage. In his first defense Yan would cost himself the title illegally kneeing Sterling while he was a downed opponent. The rematch would take over a year to come together. Sterlings grappling would ultimately lead  the champion his first successful defense and seventh win in a row.

Petr Yan will look to rebound from losing to Sterling when he faces “Sugar” Sean O’Malley. Since his knockout win that earned him a UFC contract on the contender series Sean O’Malley has been unapologetically brash about grabbing attention  and delivering highlight reel finishes. O’Malley has rebound from his first career loss with three knock wins in a row.  While his first trip into facing top ten competition returned a no contest from placing a ring finger in Pedro Munhoz right eye. “Suga” showed enough to a earn a date with the former champion.  It most likely be correct if you assume that the winner will find them self in the thick of the title conversation.

UFC 280 is October 22nd in Abu Dhabi.
