Women’s Flyweight Title Bout makes UFC 285 a championship Double Header
Valentina Shevchenko the queen of the UFC’s 125 division will look for an 8th defense of her crown at the beginning of March.
The world traveling, long reigning champion will defend her title against rising Mexican star Alexa Grasso.
Shevchenko (23-3) captured that then vacant women’s flyway title back in 2018. In 2021, four defenses into her reign Shevchenko had had her most dominant year stopping Jessica Andrade & Lauren Murphy. In 2022 the champions lone defense would be her most trying edging out Taila Santos for a split decision.
The fight has left many wondering is the champion slipping? Was it just an off night? Was it a style issue?
Grasso (15-3) has been a prospect to keep an eye on since her debut with Invicta FC in 2014. A call from the UFC came in 2016. After a couple of set back at Strawweight against some of the division’s elite. The decision to move up ten pounds to flyweight was. It couldn’t have worked out better as she won all four of her fights in the division. Including a decision win over Viviane Araujo in her first UFC main event.
UFC 285 is March 4th at the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlined by Jon Jones battling Ciryl Gane for the UFC Heavyweight title vacated by Francis Ngannou.
