The Rumble at Revel, Round by Round Recap & Results

The first night of Boxing from Revel is in the books & Matthew Griego still has an unbeaten record.

The Fights kicked off with the first bell at 7pm.   An electric hyped up hometown crowd at Revel Entertainment Center in Albuquerque. We had 4 fights this evening with a bunch New Mexico talent Featuring Matthew “Diamond Boy” Griego in the main event also in the Co-Main we had Josh “Pitbull” Torres. The undercard also had Steve Trujeque making his pro debut on the first bell of the night, following was a New Mexico showdown  Maximus Moya vs Jazzma Houge.

 

Round by Round 

8 Rd 112 lbs.: Matthew Griego (12-0) vs. Bryan Aquino (12-2)

  • Rd 1 Both fighters feeling each other out. Griego connected first but not much action in round one.
  • Rd 2 Aquino landed a right hook. It was a lower volume round as they were still feeling each other out.
  • Rd 3 Greigo landed first with a hard combination. Both fighters with very quick footwork, an intense chess match. Aquino tying Griego up as the round came to an end.
  • Rd 4 Griego again lands first. A hard right hand follows and a clash drops Aquino.

6 Rd 147 lbs.: Josh Torres (24-7-2) vs. Todd Manuel (21-21-1)

  • Rd 1 Josh Pit bull Torres had the crowd behind him. A bit of a size difference, Manuel being the bigger man. A hard straight right for Torres connected flush, he followed up working the body. Manuel did had a little success landing a few of his own shots, but it was Torres who had the most success.
  • Rd 2 Torres works the body connecting with some hard shots. Manuel didn’t have much of an answer early as the round went on.  Both Fighters staying busy till the bell.
  • Rd 3 Big punches being traded early, a very high pace round. Torres working his combos, while Manuel tries to counter back and forth they went. High volume and powerful punches bell to bell in round three. Torres getting the better end of exchanges and landed the harder shots.
  • Rd 4 Both fighters with 1-2 combos, Torres still working his combos touching the body then coming up high. Manuel had some forward pressure later in the round also connected and landed.
  • Rd 5 A slower pace but both fighters trading in the last 30 seconds. Torres lands big power shots and ended the round strong.
  • Rd 6 Both fighters  slowing down but trading  power punches back and forth.  Torres turned it up at the end of round 6 with some powerful punches securing the hometown victory.

(Winner By Unanimous Decision Josh Torres 60-54, 59-55 x2)

 

4 Rd 134 lbs.: Maximus Moya (2-0) vs. Jazzma Houge(4-10-1)

  • Rd1 Both fighters throwing early. Moya came out trying to work his jab early trying to press forward. Houge was coming back with his jab a close round one.
  • Rd 2 Both fighters came out with some big power punches trading back a fourth. Moya was struggling to find his range. Houge with more pressure had Moya on the ropes getting the better end of the exchanges.  
  • Rd 3 Moya found some momentum in the round, but Houge was always coming forward. Both fighters came out it in round three trading big punches the whole round.
  • Rd 4 In the phonebooth as they say, round four did not disappoint Moya was connecting.  Houges cardio was fading but he was still pressuring. Moya had some big shots late in the round and also had the better end of the exchanges all around.

4 Rd 118 lbs.: Steve
Trujeque (0-0) vs. Jose Vialpando(0-1).      

  • Rd1 Both fighters came out very high pace. Vialpando dropped Trujeque with a hard right hand. After the 8 count Trujeqe was working his jab, 1-2 combos. A big left hand for Trujeqe landed clean body shots also payed off for Trujeqe. Vialpandos was hurt and faded late in round 1. 
  • Rd 2 Vialpando came out firing very wild shots. Trujeque with a lot of volume landing powerful shots all round and it was enough for the referee to stop the bout. Trujeque get the pro debut win.
