Second ever BMF champ to be crowned at UFC 291
One of the mellowest cities in America will see the crowning of one of the baddest champions in the MMA industry.
With Jorge Masvidal officially retired the BMF title currently sits vacant. The main event of UFC 291 will see fans favorites run back a 2018 epic classic as Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier battles Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje for the BMF title.
Their first meeting in the main event of UFC on Fox 28 saw Poirier score a fourth round TKO after an all out war. UFC 291 is set for July 29 at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Poirier has won six of eight since that meeting including winning an interim lightweight title. “The Diamond” also came out on the winning side of a trilogy with Conor Mcgregor. Gaethje has post the same 6-2 mark since their first encounter. “The Highlight” revived his career after the loss with four consecutive knockout wins. In March the former WSOF champion provide he still has a lot left in the tank out dueling upstart Rafael Fiziev.
The card will also see a bout with significant title implications as former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz welcomes former middleweight champion Alex Pereira to the division.
Recently resigned, number five ranked middleweight, Paulo Costa is set to square off with rising prospect Ikram Aliskerov, who’s fresh off a one-punch knock of Phil Hawes in his UFC debut.
