Caged Minds is live on the scene at the world famous Jacksonwink MMA Academy for Jacksonwink Fight Night 5. The eight-fight card is topped by a Flyweight battle as long time gym member Jesse “Tornado” Tafoya battles faces Texas’s David “Bam” Miramontes. 

Kickboxing 165 lbs. Jacob Saiz vs Christopher Lucero

The night got off to a hit starts as JacksonWinks Jacob Saiz hit Perez Fighting Systems Christopher Lucero with a high kick that he was unable to recover from in the very first minute.

Amateur MMA Welterweight: Ryan Lavache vs Isaiah Zamora

Jacksonwink’s Ryan Lavache and Wild West MMA’s Isiaiah Zamora cut their mma teeth in an absolute war. Both fights finding a home for their big right hands. Zamora dropping blood from his nose while Lavache dealt with a cut outside his left eye. Lavache gain the lead in the third round incorporating a sneaky left high kick leading to a unanimous decision win.

 Amateur MMA Flyweight: Bryce Kettle vs. Donovan Garcia

Wild West MMA’s Donovan Garcia made a successful an amateur debut defeating Perez Fighting Systems Bruce Kettle by unanimous decision. Garcia was an offensive force from the opening bell putting Kettle on the fence unleashing a barrage of knees and elbows. Kettle would have his moments with stiff kicks and sharpe knees. But couldn’t sustain the momentum as Garcia would take top position to finish out tue fight.

Amateur MMA 150 lbs. Catchweight Alex Rodriguez vs. Santiago Gonzales

Jacksonwink’s Alex Rodriguez stopped Sandoval Fight Systems Santiago Gonzales who took the fight on 5 days notice by TKO from strikes while mounted. It was a wild first round that saw both fighters score knockdowns and nearly secure rear naked chokes. In the second a judo toss put Gonzales on his back. Rodriguez would advance his way to mount dropping elbows and punches forcing the stoppage.

Amateur MMA Featherweight: Clark Ginn vs Eric Flores

Clark Ginn from JacksonWink MMA started off the fight on his bike. Quickly attacking and existing from Eric Flores’s counters. Ginn put an exclamation point on the first round, knocking down Flores with a left hand. Ginn scored a second knockdown in the opening second of the second round ending the fight with  hammer-fists.

Amateur MMA Bantamweight: Samuel Walker vs. Esai Dimas

Samuel Walker of Jacksonwink MMA found himself on his back quickly from a Esai Dumas double leg. Walker found his composure locking in a triangle choke for the tap in under a minute.

Pro MMA Welterweight: Travis Foster (7-13) vs. Caleb Crump (5-4-1)

The co-main event was razor close as Travis Foster defeated Caleb Crump by split decision. Foster had a big first round keeping Crump along the fence unloading big punches. The tide completely turned in the second as Crump found a speed advantage over the Jacksonwink fighter, who was telegraphing his attacks. Crump was close to a finish having a rear naked choke locked at the end of the second round. Foster went back to his wrestling roots in the third with a couple takedowns and taking the back. Crump would escape and have a D’arce choke applied at the final bell.

Pro MMA Flyweight: Jesse Tafoya (5-5) vs. David Miramontes (4-6)

Jesse Tafoya defended home turf submitting San Antonio’s David Miramontes in the first round. The Jacksonwink fighter landed a pair of spinning backfists taking early control of the fight. Having Miramontes on the ground Taoya became over, zealous  losing position attempting an armbar.  “The Tornado” regrouped transitioning his focus to Miramontes left leg securing a heel hook for the fourth submission win of his professional career.
