Two Brothers, Two Belts, Both Champions in the Duke City

Live From Tingley Coliseum Legacy Boxing Promotions put on another spectacular show. New Mexico’s own Abraham “The Hammer” Perez raises a NEW IBA world title over his shoulders and implements his name in boxing history becoming a world champion. It wasn’t only just Abraham we have to talk about tonight it was also Aaron “Angel Baby” Perez  his brother who was a co-headliner fighting for a New Mexico State Lightweight Championship. The undercard  was no disappointment as it featured a series of top southwest prospects like  Cristian Cabral who was coming off back to back camps and a huge win this summer on the Legacy Promotions New era card. Hometown favorite Clinton Chavez faced Texas’s Cesar Alvarado it was sure to be one of the best fights of the night two fighters who always bring the pressure and left it all in the ring. Heavyweight prospects were also featured on the card like Leonid Grachev who trained on the east coast for this camp and is no stranger to the Legacy Promotions family.  Boxing History was made tonight, and New Mexico has a new world champ in Abraham “The Hammer” Perez. We can’t forget to mention Fight of the night Josh Rodriguez vs. Deonte Smith both fighters left it all in the ring in an epic battle. Performance of the night goes to Abraham Perez with spectacular defense and vicious accuracy. “Hammer” forcing his opponents corner to call a stop to the fight. Below are tonight’s results. 12 rounds Vacant IBA Flyweight Title Fight: Abraham Perez (9-0)  vs  Luis Villa Padilla (15-5-2)  

The Hammer came out with beautiful defense early on and went to work quickly on Villa Padilla. Perez sticking his jab and staying light on his feet while sneaking in power rights to the head and body of Villa-Padilla. Perez had vicious speed in his hands all night with relentless pressure and pace he put on his opponent. Perez was dominate in his performance tonight scoring to the body numerous times leaving Villa-Padilla bruised. The body work was his setup to immediately go back up top. It was a one sided fight in Perez’s favor after  all was said and done. The corner of Villa-Padilla saw enough and had the commission step in to call a stop in round nine.

6 rounds Lightweight Aaron Perez (11-1-1)  vs Rafael Reyes (20-17)  NM state lightweight title bout

Both fighters came out trying to feel it out, by the time round one ended we had ourselves a hard technical battle. Perez quicker of the two utilizing his angles while also being first to connect most the time. Reyes was no easy out while he stood his ground taking hard shots while also delivering a few of his own. Perez pulled away as he had a series of hooks and uppercuts that brutally chipped away at Reyes the whole fight but still reaching the judges scorecards. 

Winner by unanimous decision Aaron “Angel Baby” Perez (60-54 all three judges)

6 rounds Middleweight Cristian Cabral (9-2-2)  vs Moris Rodriguez (8-16-2)   

Cabral and Rodriguez clashed heads on early on in the bout opening Cabral’s right eyebrow. Cabral was boxing beautifully landing one-two straight combos while aggressively applying constant pressure. Rodriguez stood his ground throwing long weeping power shots trying to find the chin of Cabral but was unsuccessful. Cabral was the better boxer all around it still saw the judges score cards and it was ruled a very controversial draw.

6 rounds Middleweight Cesar Alvarado (3-1) vs Clinton Chavez (7-1) 

A Very technical Alvarado cracked the body with a left hooks and landed several over hands while working his efficient jab. Chavez answered with a left hook right uppercut but it seemed like Alvarado was pulling away landing the more damaging volume.  Chavez in round six had the better cardio and laned a series of straight right and left hooks that wobbled Alvarado and made it a very close fight.

Clinton Chavez winner by Split decision (58-56 58-56 59-55)

4 rounds Heavyweight Leonid Grachev (5-0-2)  vs Juan Cardoza Puente b(2-1-1)  

Grachev  worked his  jab staying on the outside while Cardoza  pressured forward calling Drago to come forward trying to work on the inside. Grachev was the more efficient fighter and seemed to connect with the more damaging shots. Also the reach of Grachev  was a problem for Cardoza-Puente.  Making it the distance and we saw the scorecards for a surprising decision.

4 rounds Lightweight Josh Rodriguez (2-0) vs Deonte Smith (0-2)  

Both fighters in the phone booth dropping hard straight hands on each other. A very competitive technical battle the straights and overhand rights were traded all fight. Rodriguez brought the pressure was tough Smith did have an answer it was a very even fight. Rodriguez was pulling way in round 3 landing with volume from all angles. Smith had his most effective round in fourth to get us to the judges score cards.

Winner Josh Rodriguez unanimous decision (39-37 39-37 39-37)

4 rounds Heavyweight Jonathan Abeyta (2-1-1) vs Brandon Heredia (0-2-1)   

A bloody four rounds both fighters caused damaging and had moments of their own throughout the fight.

Majority Draw (39-37 39-37 39-38)

4 rounds Bantamweight Saul Gomez (2-0) vs Alejandro Moreno (24-51-3)

Gomez came out strong working his jab dropping Moreno in round two. Moreno stood strong firing back but Gomez dictated the pace and landed the most devastating shots.  A straight right hand secured the victory in the fourth round.
