PFL 3 Results, Magomed Umalatov easily handles Andrey Koreshkov

The Wintrust Arena in Chicago Illinois was host to PFL 3. The Windy City is the backdrop for the Featherweights & Welterweights to start their 2024 campaign.

In the main event Russian prospect Magomed Umalatov got the better of Russian veteran Andrey Koreshkov. Umalatov wrestled his way to a one sided first round. The prospect unleashed a flurry of hooks knocking Koreshkov down in the second. Umalatov finished all three rounds in control of his elder cruising to a decision win.

A controversial finish in the co-main event has Brendan Loughnane a top the featherweight standings. The 2022 PFL Featherweight champion sat down Pedro Carvalho with a straight right hand on the chin. Strategically placed shots from Loughnane keeping Carvalho in danger. The controversy came as the ref stopped the fight while Carvalho was still moving and in the process of ankle picking Loughnane. The first-round finish giving Loughnane six points.

Russian Shamil Musaev made a giant first impression as he scored a second-round knockout of Welterweight perennial favorite Logan Storley. Musaev’s striking overwhelmed Storley near the end of the first round. Early in the second a Musaev right hand sat down Storley who was put out cold by a left hook as he attempted to get back vertical. The five points for a second-round finish put Musaev in third place.

2023 finalist Gabriel Braga sits in second place with six points after knocking out Justin Gonzales in the final second of the first round. Braga in an understandably emotional state in hist first fight since his father & head coach Diego Bara was murdered. A surprisingly claim Bara was able to channel the emotions and compose himself to fend of Gonzales takedown attempts, corner Gonzales on the fence, and hit the bullseye with a perfect left hook.

Don Madage sits in first place in the Welterweight standings with six-points after jumping on the back of Brennan Ward and taking a standing rear naked choke submission win. Muard Ramazanov is in second place with six-points after submitting Laureano Staropoli by rear naked choke on the ground.

Goiti Yamauchi evened the score with fellow Brazilian and Bellator Alumni Neiman Gracie. Yamauchi was the much more fluid striker with his combinations drawing blood from Garcie’s nose and from above his left eye. After two rounds of forcing the fight to be contested on the feet and declining to go to the ground Yamauchi finished the fight in half guard. The three-point decision win put Yamauchi in fifth place.

Sprawl and Brawl earned Kai Kamaka a decision win over 2022 finalist Bubba Jenkins. Unfortunately the biggest win of Kamaka’s career was only good enough for three-point and fifth place. Only the top four scorers advance to the playoffs.
