Vacant Light Heavyweight title Fight Headlines UFC 283
The UFC will feature Light-Heavyweight title fights in consecutive pay per view main events.
The belt cannot be vacant is the message that many feel the UFC is sending.
As soon as promotions brass knew that the uninspired main event of UFC282 between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev had been scored a draw they were making contingency plans.
The originally scheduled title challenger for Jiri Prochazka’s Light-Heavyweight title former champion Glover Teixeria was ringside accepting an offer to fight for the gold in his native Brazil against surging prospect Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill.
UFC 283 is set for January 21 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Teixeira (33-8) is a 43 year old BJJ black belt. Learning from his idle Mike Tyson, Glover is highly effective at trading punches in the pocket. Teixeria’s resurgence can be credited to implementing his grappling that has lead to submissions in for his last six wins.
Hill (11-1) joined the UFC in 2019 after a knockout win on the Contender Series. The Michigan native has continued to increase his striking repertoire, opening his last for fights by knockout. In his last three bouts Hill has knockout fellow prospects Jimmy Crute & Johnny Walker in the first round. The 31-year-old made his loudest statement in August knockout out former title challenger in the fourth round of his first UFC main event.
UFC 283 will feature two championship fights. The co-main event will see the fourth flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueirdo and Brandon Moreno.
