King of the Cage East vs. West Results, East Wins Gold At Home

King of the Cage East vs. West took place on Saturday June 22, at the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The night’s action showcased 9 amateur bouts showing the great coming out of the Southwest and up the ranks in MMA. The main event saw Cody “The Freight Train” East challenging Nick Rossborough for the KOCT Heavyweight title.

Amateur Card

Bout number 1: Jacob Espana 0-1 vs. Kyle Plztero 0-2 at 120 lbs.

Espana blitzed Plztero against the cage with strikes change levels complete the take down, move from ½ guard to side control locks up kimura.

Bout number 2: Mark Vogel 0-0 vs. Jeremy Alba 0-1 at Featherweight

After a few punches thrown they clinched Alba land some good knees and the fight goes to the ground where on his 2nd armbar attempt Vogel get the tap.

Bout number 3: Jerome Rivera 0-1 vs. Adrian Lopez 0-1 at Flyweight

Jerome Rivera def. Adrian Lopez by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:38 of round 1

Rivera comes forward gets the take down and starts landing ground and pound, Lopez gives up his back and Rivera jumps on the rear naked choke getting and immediate tap.

 

Bout number 4: Ray Vaiza III 0-0 vs. Brent James 4-1 at Featherweight

James got the clinch dragged the battle to the ground, passed through the guard an locked up the kimura.

Bout number 5: John Rozema 2-0 vs. Vic Masayesva 1-2 at Lightweight

Masayesva cam out pushing forward looking for the take down on a fail attempt Rozema jumped to the mount and dropped bombs forcing the ref to stop the fight.

Bout number 6: Ronald Smith 2-0 vs. Robert Chavez 0-0 at Featherweight

Both men exchange strikes, Smith get the clinch and blast Chavez with a knee to the face and goodnight.

Bout number 7: Dorian Dixion 2-2 vs. Tim Valdez 0-0 at Lightweight

RD1- Valdez comes forward from the ring of the bell pressuring Dixion looking for the take down. Valdex did get the take down and rouns ended with some back and forth striking on the ground.

RD2- Valdez starts off the 2nd round the same get the take down and after no action is stood up. Valdez again looking top clinch is this time turned and in a guillotine against the cage. As Dixion  pulls the fight to the ground. Valez sweeps and get on top. Looking for a leg lock Dixion retakes the top position. A faild leg lock by Valdez sees Dixion and the round landing a few punches.

Rd3- Valdez looks gased to start the round Dixon starts to move forward land a jab and leg kick. Valdexz shoots for the take down but doesn’t hold Dixion’s body as Dixion is able to takes Valdez’s back and is looking for the RNC. The round ends that way.

Bout number 8: Shannon Curlee 1-2 vs. Aaron Perls 3-0 at Lightweight

Perls pressures Curlee to the fence throws a knee to which Curlee answers back with a takedown. Pearls gains wrist control slaps on the triangle choke and get the tap.

Bout number 9: Mike Manning 2-0 vs. Dominic Valencia 1-0 at Featherweight Valencia

Both men come out firing testing each others chin and not a worry about defense. Manning throws a single leg kick that Valencia answers with a straight right hand. Manning gets back to his feet . Valencia pressures Manning back to the cage then grabs the thia clinch and drags Manning to the ground after landing a few knees on the way. Vaqlencia looks for ground and pounds but then switchs to a darace choke attempt but, Manning survives and Valencia is transitioning to the back as the bell rings.

Pro Card

Bout number 10: Josh Todd 0-1 vs. Terry Nunalley 2-3 at Middleweight

RD1- Todd started off the bout going forward trying to initiate the striking. Todd lands a straight dropping Nunalley to his knees, but Nunalley recovers and completes a single leg. On the ground Nunalley is able to advance to mount and finish the bout with strikes.

Bout number 11: Nick Rossborough 23-16 vs. Cody East 6-1 Heavyweight title bout

RD 1-Both men coming out firing single punches. Both men land with straight right and leg kicks. East takes Rossborough to the ground off a teep kick and lands in side control East lands a few knees and some punches. Rossborough makes his way back to his feet eating punches on the way. Rossborough lands with stiff jab. East continues to push forward mixing up punches and led kicks.

RD 2- East starts off round to with a combination that backs Rossborough to the cage then changing levels East score a takedown landing in side control ans starts landing knee with tons of weight behind them.  East allows Rossborough back to his feet. Rossborough starts chopping away at East’s lead leg. East answers with a thunderous leg kick of his own. East gets Rossborough against the cage with a knee to abdomen Rossborough drops East starts to strike and Ross fights back to his feet. The round ends with the fight standing and both man looking for an opening.

RD 3- Rossborough comes out more active flashing the jab and landing low kicks. East answers with a low kick and scores another take down. East land a few elbows before Ross is able to gain guard and East allows Rossborough to stand. Blood is dripping from the nose of East after Rossborough doubles up on the jab. East force Rossborough to the cage and scores another take down. Rossborough is able to use the kimura and sweep ending the round on top.

RD 4- Rossborough throws a high kick slips and East jumps on top in half guard. East is able to pass to side control. Rossborough turns into East, East scrambles to take the back. Ross rolls under for a knee bar. East escapes and get back on top in side control. Rossborough again gives up the back and East is now riding land punches. Both men are exhausted.

RD 5- East starts off the round tripling up on the jab. Rossborough looks to take east down an ends up on his back. From ½ guard East is working ground and pound. East is able to stay on top the rest of the round.

Cody east def. Nick Rossborough by (49-46) (50-49) (49-46) by unanimous decision yo become the new KOTC Heavyweight Champion
