Mr. Wonderful Meets The Dragon at UFC 163, when Davis faces Machida
Top ten Light Heavyweights “Mr. Wonderful” Phil Davis (7-1) from Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida (19-3) will go to battle at UFC 163 on August 3.
Alliance MMA’s Phil Davis has won two fights in a row over Wagner Prado by submission and most recently over Vinny Magalhaes by unanimous decision, at UFC 159.
Black House’s Lyoto Machida has won consecutive bouts over Ryan Bader (KO) and Dan Henderson by (UD). After both wins it was announced that “The Dragon” had positioned himself as the number one contender to challenge champion Jon Jones, but the title shot has not materialized
Phil Davis posses very good wrestling skills and is a top-notch athlete. Davis while showing that he can strike by outpointing Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 159; is still not the striker that the Karate black belt Machida is. To win this fight Davis will need timely take downs and to use his athleticism to out distance Machida.
Lyoto Machida holds black belts in the aforementioned karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Machida his lethal striking as was shown by the KO of Ryan Bader, who recklessly has charged in trying to close the distance on “The Dragon”. Most recently Machida use superior movement to out pointing Dan Henderson, while avoiding “Hendo’s” devastating right hand, the “H-Bomb”.
UFC 163 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janiero, Brazil; and is headlined by Anthony “Showtime” Pettis challenging Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight title.
