Gilbert Yvel Hangs Up The Gloves
After 16 years and 56 fights in the MMA game, most at Heavyweight Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel (38-16-1, 1nc) has decided it’s time to hang up the gloves.
The news of Yvels’ decision broke on June 30, the day of his 37th birthday. Yvel will infamously be remembered for his 3 disqualification loss to Karimula Barkalaev (biting), Don Frye (eye gouging), and Atte Backman (Koed the referee).
Yvel started out his career with a 9-0 record. Yvel would compete in Pride, M-1, K-1, Affliction, The Ultimate Fighting Championships and most recently with Resurrection Fighting Alliance.
On the strength of a 9-1 streak “The Hurricane” in 2010 would get his chance in the UFC, but consecutive losses to Junior Dos Santos, Ben Rothwell, and Jon Madsen. Dropping two Light Heavyweight Yvel ended his career with wins over Damiano Dantibo (SUB) and Houston Alexander (TKO).

Yvel holds notable wins over Pedro Rizzo, Valentijn Overreem, Cheick Kongo, Gary Goodridge, and Semmy Schilt. Most impressively “The Hurricane” had all his wins by stoppage with 23 KO/TKO’s and 6 submissions.
