Bellator Signs Heavyweight Cheick Kongo
Former UFC Heavyweight Cheick Kong (18-8-2) has a new promotional home with Bellator MMA. Kongo a native of France trains at the WolfSlair Academy in England. In 7 years with the UFC Kongo amounted a 11-6-1 mark in 18 fights. Kongo’s debut in Bellator will come as he takes part in the season 9 Heavyweight tournament.
Kong did have the 2011 come back of the year against Pay Barry, coming back from almost being stopped to win by KO. But since Kongo is only 2-2 in his last 4 fights with KO/TKO losses to Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson. Kongo’s most recent wins over Matt Mitrione and Shawn Jordan have were lackluster performances. When Kong recently competed his contract with the UFC the promotion wanted Kongo to take a significant pay cut, signifying that they believe that the Frenchman is on the down slide of his career. Kongo instead of taking the UFC’s offer fallowed his teammate Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to Bellator MMA.
