M’Pumbu Out, Alexander In vs. Matyushenko at Bellator 99
A hand injury has forced Christian M’Pumbu (18-5-1) to withdraw from what was expected to be the Bellator 99 main event against MMA vet/newly signed to Bellator Valdimir “The Janitor” Matyshenko (26-7). Taking the place of M’Pumbu will be Houston “The Assasssin” Alexander (15-9), but not in the main event.
Bellator has announced that with the injury to M’Pumbu, the Alexander vs. Matyshenko bout will not be the main event, instead Featherweight tournament quarterfinal of Diego “The Gun” Nunes (18-4) vs. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (17-2) will get the headlining honor.
Matyshenko has lost consecutive bouts Ryan Bader and Alexander Gustafsson. This will be the first time since 2009 that “The Janitor” has competed out side of the UFC. Alexander has won back to back bouts over Dennis Reed amd Chuck Grigsby.
The undercard for the September 13th event at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California; has also been announced with at Heavyweight Blagoi Ivanov (7-0) vs. Manny Lara (4-3), at Light Heavyweight Nick Moghaddam (6-6-1) vs. Virgil Zwicker (10-3), also at Light Heavyweight Savo Kosic (4-1) vs. Hector Ramirez (9-5), and at Bantamweight Derek Loffer (4-1) vs. Mario Navarro (4-3).
