Jones vs. Teixeira & Mir vs. Overeem at UFC 169

It’s official Jon “Bones” Jones (19-1) will make his next title defense on Super Bowl weekend at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; in the main event of UFC 169 against Glover Teixeira (22-2).

Serving as the co-main event, will be moving from UFC 167 will be a Heavyweight collision between former UFC champion Frank Mir (16-8) and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem (36-13).

Jon Jones is coming off of a 5 round war with  Alexadner Gustafsson, that is a Fight of the Year candidate. The bout saw Jones with stand big punches and a cut over his right eye to prevail with a unanimous decision, setting a new record for consecutive title defenses as in the Light Heavyweight  division with 6. Jones thus far in his title run has defeated Rampage Jackson (SUB), Lyoto Machida (SUB), Rashad Evans (UD), Vitor Belfrot (SUB), Chael Sonnen (TKO), and  Alexadner Gustafsson (UD).

Glover Teixeira is a protege of former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. Teixeira has trained at The Pit, Nova Uniao, BlackHouse, and American Top Team. Currently the 33 year old Brazilian, is on a 20 fight win streak. In the UFC Teixeira has claimed victories over Kyle Kingsbury (SUB), Fabio Maldonaso (TKO), Rampage Jackson (UD), James Te Huna (SUB), and Ryan Bader (TKO).

Mir will be looking to end a 3 fight skid having lost to Junior dos Santos (TKO), Daniel Cormier (UD), and most recently suffering TKO loss to Josh Barnett, that many people have said was an early stoppage.

Overeem will be looking to end a 2 fight losing skid, having suffered back to back knockout losses to Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
