It’s starting to cool off an we are on to the 2nd part of today’s huge Boxing double header. The pros will now take over the ring, as the sun sets, and we get under the stars; Dia de Johnny Tapia continues with Johnny Tapia Presents The Next Chapter 5.
Bout number 1: Tim Meeks (2-0) vs. Frankie Quintana (0-0) – 4 rds
Recap- Meeks stayed long and cut great angles for the first 3 rounds of the fight, The longer the bout went on the more Quintana found his grove; and the come back would come from a single right hand. Meeks would stand and then on wobbly knees reintroduce his back side to the mat.
Result- Frankie Quinntana by KO, 1:16, RD 4
Bout number 2: Brandon Salazar (1-3) vs. Marcelo Cloud (0-0) – 4 rds
Hard, fast, and straight forward is how Brandon Salazar came out and overwhelmed Cloud through the hole first round; causing a pair of knock-downs.
Results- Brandon Salazar by TKO, 2:50, RD 1
Bout number 3: Brenda Gonzales (2-1) vs. DJ Morrision (3-20) – 4 rds
After a shaky first round, the nerves settled for Gonzales who would take control of the following three round staying in Morrison’s face. Gonzales did score a pair of knock downs, seemingly having Morrison on the ropes, but the tough warrior would see through to the final bell.
Result- Brenda Gonzales by Unanimous Decision
Bout number 4: Jeremiah Torres (8-24, 1 KO) vs. Shawn Gallegos (18-4) – 6 rds
Gallegos outclassed his opponent in a brilliant return to the ring after 4 years away. You got to give it to Torres having tons of heart. But speed and length of Gallegos was too much.
Result- Shawn Gallegos by Unanimous Decision
Bout number 5: Josh “Pitbull” Torres (12-3, 5 KO) vs. Francisco Lira (4-3, 2 KO) – 8 rds
Torres with pressure and big punches, out Liar off his game in the opening movements of the round. Things did get better as half way through the first round a Cut above Lira’s right eyebrow opened. Torres was not even fully touched in his under 4 minutes of work. Liar would be rush by Torres in the Middle of the flurries sent to the ground. Following the 2nd knock-down Liar gave up, during the 10-count.
