The Hollewood View of “Raining Thunder”

Raining Thunder presented by Legacy Boxing Promotions took place at Buffalo Thunder Hotel, Resort, & Casino on August 24th 2019.

In the first bout of the night we had Jesus Xavier Perardua 7-6 (1ko) out of Albuquerque NM vs Jazzma Hogue 3-9 (2ko) from Fruitland NM. In the first round Jazzma kept his distance with a stiff jab with Xavier applying the pressure throughout the second half of the round, eventually putting Jazzma back against the ropes unloading straight rights down the middle and left hooks to the body and head.  Xavier started the second round a little more aggressive, Jazzma not so fluent with the movement, standing  his ground and unloading a shotgun jab being able to use his head movement and kept Xavier missing with his attempts. In the third round both fighters met in the middle of the ring filling the range out, Xavier who seem to have a longer reach, tends to pop off with an overhand right following Jazzma’s jab back, landing it frequently throughout the round. Jazzma applied pressure but continued to fall in range of getting hit.  In the last round we saw ring rust set in, both fighters seem to be a little fatigue with mostly inside fighting, with Xavier being more accurate in the confrontation. The bout goes to Xavier by Unanimous Decision, improving his record to 8-6. Jazzma Hogue 3-10

In the second fight of the night we had Clinton “Native Kid” Chavez 1-0 (1ko) vs Eloy Valverde 0-1 out of Amarillo TX. The bout started off with Chavez walking down Valverde. Eloy with decent foot work, was able to pop off straight rights and jabs quickly moving in and out the pocket of Chavez’. In the second round Clinton started catching Eloy with stiff over right hands and body shoots while Valverde slowed down his back and forth movement coming straight forward in a bull like style. In the third round Eloy started to look a little fatigue getting caught with powerful left hooks and devastating overhand rights, with 20 seconds left Chavez puts Valverde in the blue corner and released an onslaught of punches putting the referee in position to get in the middle and stop the fight with 10 seconds left in the third round, resulting in a victorious Chavez improving to 2-0 (2 KO) and Valverde 0-2.

In the third bout of the night we had Matthew Esquibel 12-0 (5ko ) out of Albuquerque NM vs Issac Luna 4-1 from San Elizario TX. Luna opened the bout with a looping overhand right missing convincingly with Matthew popping back with a stiff jab catching Luna. Multiple wild exchanges between both fighters resulted in tying up and clinching constantly. At 1:50 in the round Matthew threw a wild left hook that Luna slipped and counter with an overhand right putting Matthew on the canvas. After the count the referee signaled to continue with the fight; Luna applied pressure leading both fighters to tangled up, as Esquibel backs up, Luna stands his ground, launching another overhand right catching Matt sending him to the ropes for the second knock down in the round. Matt up and ready to continue after the second knock down eager to get back in action ending the round swinging wildly with Luna and tying up. In the second round both fighters met in the middle of the ring, with Luna backing up Matthew with every overhand right he threw, taking him only 20 seconds to land the overhand right that ended the bout due to referee believing Matthew couldn’t continue. Luna 5-1 and Matthew suffered his first defeat 12-1

In the 4th bout of the night we had Aaron Angel Perez 7-0 (5ko) from Albuquerque NM vs Danny Flores 15-16 (8ko) out of Mexico City MEX. In the first half of this bout we had amazing exchanges between both fighters. Flores, on his bike, stepped out of range every time the heavier hitter, Perez, put his combos together gong body to head landing fiercely and repeatedly. Perez continued the second half of the bout looking either fatigue or frustrated by Flores’ taunting gestures and his continues to exchange, still holding his power and accuracy, being able to bully Flores throughout the fight. Perez displayed extraordinary left hooks to the body and straight rights down the middle. Perez left the match with an Unanimous decision remaining undefeated 8-0 (5KO) Danny Flores 15-16 (8KO).

The 5th bout, our title fight. We have Amy Salinas 2-0 out of Las Cruces NM vs Samantha Salazar 6-5 out of Houston TX. Out the gate Salinas applied pressure never letting off. Samantha with decent movement kept Salinas out of range for the most part in the first half of the fight by not engaging due to Salinas’ body to head combinations ans accuracy. In the second half of the fight Salazar no longer had the legs to move due to Salinas’ body work, keeping Salinas eager to get rid of Salazar faster. Amy continued to punish her opponent not able to take out Samantha by a knock out but wining all judges by unanimous decision improving Salinas to 3-0 with a Superfly weight ABF title.

In the Co-Feature bout we had Joseph Martinez 22-8 (10ko) out of Aztec NM VS Arturo Crespin 13-8 (4ko) out Las Vegas NM. Crespin comes out very energetic, leaping and launching throwing wild right and left hooks from his hips, momentarily overwhelming Martinez but Crespin’s energy only lasted for the first round. During the second and third rounds we saw a lot of holding and tying up due to what I believe was because of height difference. Also within this time you could tell Martinez was warming up and landing more effective and harder punches. In the forth round Joseph picked up his accuracy landing flush left hooks to the body and head. Crespin being fatigue in this round, kept his gloves in his upper belly allowing Joseph to land an astonishing overhand right, resulting in Crespin folding back, landing awkwardly giving a KO win to Martinez. Joseph Martinez 23-8 (10 KO)

For the Main event, out of Santa Fe NM we had Joaquin Zamora 22-4-1 (12ko) vs Josue Obando 17-26 (12ko). Both of these experienced fighters, opened the bout calm, circling each other around. Throughout the bout Zamora tried to shorten the distance of the taller fighter. Maybe it was the 2 and a half year off layoff or it was the taller Josue Obando conventional awkward style that made difficult for Zamora to land any of his arsenal of punches. Due to the lack of engagement and mostly tying up on the ropes the judges had no other convincing tales to the story to call it other than nothing but a draw.
