UFC 288 Quick Results
The UFC is at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey for UFC 288. The 12-fight card is headlined by a showdown to determine who is the true UFC Bantamweight world champion.
The main event will see former champion Henry “The Messenger” Cejudo challenging Aljamain “The Funkmaster” Sterling for the UFC Bantamweight world title he never lost. In May of 2020 Cejudo shocked the MMA world. Following a successful defense of the UFC Bantamweight world title “The Messenger” announced his retirement from the sport. The Olympic gold medalist has dethroned Demetrious Johnson of the Flyweight crown and concurred the Bantamweight division. Petr Yan would claim the vacant title belt. An illegal knee would take the title from Yan and put the belt around the waist of Aljamain Sterling. The rematch would show “The Funkmaster’s” ability to make adjustment leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind. This past October Sterling submitted former champion TJ Dillashaw a win that was supposed to quite the last critics. But Dillashaw came in with a dislocated shoulder. Leaving the door cracked for haters. Leaving some pondering who is the best Bantamweight in the world.
A title shot is on the line in the co-main event as number four racked Belal “Remember the Name” Muhammad faces number five ranked Gilbert “Durinho” Burns. Muhammad is on an eight-fight win streak while Burns has won three of his last four fights, including beating Jorge Masvidal in the co-main event of UFC 287 three weeks ago.
