UFC 289 Quick Results, Nunes Dominates & Retires

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for UFC 289.  The eleven-fight card is headlined by a showdown for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship of the world.

The main event has number five ranked contender, Mexico’s Irene Aldana challenging Amanda Nunes, who’s widely regarded as the top female MMA fighter history, for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title. Aldana took the fight on short notice replacing Juliana Pena. The nation of Mexico currently boosts three UFC champion, the most UFC champions it has ever had at one time. The 35-year-old Aldana looks to join her country and teammate Alexa Grasso has UFC royalty. Nunes is a two-division champion with ten wins in UFC title fights. “The Lioness” is the only women to ever lose and regain the Bantamweight title. Plus Nunes is the only defending champion in the history of the UFC Women’s Featherweight division.

The co-main event is a title eliminator in the Lightweight division. Former champion, number one ranked contender Charles Oliveira against number four ranked Beneil Daruish. Oliveira has the most submission wins in UFC history. Darius comes in riding an eight fight win streak.
