Expo Explosion Results, Perez dominates Mendoza to Earn 2nd IBA Title
Legacy Boxing Promotions Presented “Expo Explosion” an eight fight card that took place at the Manuel Lujan JR exhibit complex.
Tonight’s card started off with a bang. Elija Martinez (2-0) vs. Garret Lopez (2-4) started off with both fighters landing shots Martinez countering and moving his head well he was using his jab and throwing to the body, Lopez pressed forward throwing hard shots to the body as well. Lopez seemed to be feeling the affects of the body shots he was fading. Lopez was cut in round 2 but seemed to kind of fight his way back in round three pressing forward with his 1-2 combs following then with hooks to the liver. It wasn’t enough as Martinez was faster and landed more volume in round four and secured his decision win.
Martin Armijo (3-0) vs. Joshua Reyes (3-2) started off quickly short bursts of powerful combinations both fighters. Armijo landing his straight shots and hook. Reyes would match the effort making an even fight through three rounds. Armijo was the fighter to press forward southpaw vs. orthodox their power hands collided all fight it was a war. Ultimately it resulted in Armijo with the better cardio and more powerful shots getting a majority decision win.
Daniel Gonzalez (4-1) vs. Shadi Shawareb (9-4) was the definition of explosive as Gonzalez came out with lead left hooks to the body stunning his opponent in round one. Shadi Shaware found success in round two with a few overhand rights. It was a constant battle between these fighters Gonzalez had more in the tank and was still moving his head and landing hard punches in the later rounds. Gonzalez had more power and pressure to grit out a hard fought, bloody win decision.
Cesar Alvarado (2-0) vs. Sterling Peak (2-0) had some good old fashion back and forth exchanges. Alvarado’s overhead, right which is most effective weapon. Peak answering by pressing forward with a powerful 1-2’s. The tension was high throughout the contest, as Alvarado would put together series of combinations all the while Peak was pressure forward. After four rounds with Alvarado earned a unanimous decision win staying undefeated.
Katherine Lindemuth had a very quick first round TKO win over Theresa Day. Lindenmuth came out with a flurry of punches to the body and head that overwhelmed Day forcing the referee to call a stop to the fight early in the first round. Lindenmuth improves to (5-1) while Day comes up short in her pro debut.
Jordanne Garcia (4-1-3) from Albuquerque welcomed Citlalli Ortiz (3-1) on short notice to the 505, after the first scheduled opponent pulled out. Citlalli came out to fight, Jordanne Garcia using her technical boxing to navigate Citlalli’s pressure both ladies found success and landed while fighting from the inside. Citlalli’s pressure and volume of punches is what made the difference to sway the judges in a unanimous decision win in her favor.
In the co-main we saw Cristian Cabral (8-2) battle Daniel Flores Garcia (3-7) who missed weight by five pounds. Cabral used his body shots to set up heavy power rights up top. Flores-Garcia had Cabral against the ropes a few times but Cabral had more power and landed the most effective shots to win a one-sided decision.
The main event Abraham “Hammer” Perez vs. Gilberto Mendoza was nothing short of a great fight. “Hammer” established his jab while staying focused on movement and defense. Mendoza plan involved heavy pressure. A Perez uppercut Mendoza on the ground in the round two. Perez tasted blood and was looking for the finish. It was Hammer time as Perez dominated the whole fight. Mendoza kept with pressure showing his durability. Series of uppercuts and combos overwhelmed Mendoza throughout the fight. Mendoza finally having had enough couldn’t answer the bell for the 8th round. The “Hammer” convincingly secured his 8th professional win.
