The world-famous Octagon is home at the Apex for UFC Fight Night “Song vs. Gutierrez”. A showdown between top fifteen ranked Bantamweights sits atop of an eleven-fight card. In the main event number 8 ranked Song Yadong faces number 15 Chris Guttierez.

Victory & defeat comes down to choices. Song Yadong showed maturity in working through the issues Chris Gutierrez’s kick heavy game.  Song constantly pressed forward looking for murderous right hands. In the “championship rounds” Song choice to look for his takedown, minimizing the Guterriez attack. Guterriez was unable to focus being concerned with fouls and commentary from the easily hearable small crowd. Ultimately limiting himself by the choosing to roll for a leg lock in the final round putting himself on his back. The 26-year-old has now won back-to-back Fight Night main events and has called for a meeting with former champion Petr Yan as he continues to build his case for a title shot.

In the co-main event Khalil Rountree scored the biggest win of his career. Rountree busted up Anthony Smith behind a jab that lured Smith into a destructive counter left hook that has Smith on shaky legs in the second round. The finish would materialize from a right uppercut left hook that saw smith stumble backwards before landing on his butt. A true sportsman, Rountree with a hammer-fist cocked never releasing the weapon as the ref after a long look, correctly stops further violence from occurring. In a match-up of opposite stans fighters power shots are very available. Nasrat Haqprast found his left hands and a flurry of uppercuts lit up and put out Jamir Mullarkey inside of two minutes, for his third win in a row. Jiu Jitsu ace Andre Muniz went to work utilizing his grappling to the tune of 11 takedowns and over nine minutes of control time to defeat JunYong Park. Welterweight prospect Kevin Jousset took another set forward as strong fundamentals, his jab and low kicks drove home a clean sweep of Kenan Song across the judges’ cards. Road to UFC winner Hyun Sung Park showed the ability to adjust after Hurting Shannon Ross twice in the first round, Ross made a comeback until Park switched his target to the body. Two solid left hooks would put Ross on the mat and ground strikes finished it off. Postponed a week due to Steve Gacia catching a stomach beg. Melquizael Costa looked to implement his grappling against Garcia.  Garcia’s aggression and striking would take over in the second round as two hook one from either side would send Costa to the mat. Garcia would follow to the ground brutally busting Costa open with thudding elbows to find the finish. Luana Santos proved to be a game competitor refocusing after missing weight by three pounds to out grapple fellow Judoka Stepphanie Egger to win a decision. But Santos has to get her weight under control. Tatsuro Taira had expected a ranked opponent and made the proper case as to why he deserves one. Taira wore down Carlos Hernadez with grappling before finding a home for his right hand and finishing with strikes on the ground.  The night started out with Talita Alencar defeating Rayanne Dos Santos by unanimous decision.
