
Holloway-Poirier 3 headlines UFC 318
“The Diamond’s” retirement fight will be trilogy bout against “Blessed” with the BMF title on the line.
It had been rumored that the UFC had something special in store for Dustin Poirier’ final foyer into the octagon. Poirier broke the news himself on the Pat McAfee show that he’ll be challenging Max “Blessed” Holloway for the BMF title in his hometown in the main event of
UFC 318 is scheduled for July 19 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Poirier was the victorious party in both of the first two meetings with the former Featherweight champion. At 18-years old Holloway made his short notice UFC debut against Poirier at UFC 143 tapping to an arm bar in the first round. Seven years later Poirier beat Holloway by unanimous decision at UFC 236 taking home the interim lightweight title.
At UFC 291 Poirier lost his first chance at the BMF title getting caught by a Justin Gaethje head kick that even their series at a win a peace. “The Diamond” proved how showed how sharp he still is when he halted the moment of surging Frenchman Benoit Saint- Denis at UFC 299.
Holloway is one of the greatest Featherweights in UFC history with a championship reign that included four successful defenses. At UFC 300 Holloway put together his finest performance dissecting Justin Gaethje for 20-minutes. With victory assured Holloway risked it all to trade with Gaethje in the middle of the cage. A bad ass moment where putting Gaethje out cold to win the BMF title.
