Torres, Cabral Make Weight for Championship Doubleheader at Legacy Continues IV: Summer Heat
Friday night isn’t just fight night—it’s a championship doubleheader in the Duke City with two once-young rivals now sharing the spotlight as seasoned veterans and fan favorites.
Back in 2018, Josh “Pitbull” Torres and Cristian Cabral ignited the 505 with a thrilling battle that showcased the passion and talent of New Mexico boxing. Eight years later, they share the same card not as opponents, but as co-headliners, each chasing championship gold.
The local fight scene is heating up just like the Summer Heat, with six professional events scheduled across New Mexico over the next seven weeks.
Torres has already put together a productive summer, stopping Diego Luque in the opening round at the Johnny Tapia Memorial Fight Festival to extend his winning streak to eight. Now the Albuquerque standout looks to add another milestone to his career when he meets 36-fight veteran Jose Valenzuela Alvarado of Mexico for the UBO Welterweight Championship. Torres tipped the scales at 146.6 pounds, while Alvarado came in at 146.8, making the title fight official.
Cabral enters the co-main event looking to capture the UBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship. The veteran New Mexican weighed in at 158.6 pounds, while Mexico’s Martin Sollano initially missed the middleweight limit by 2.4 pounds before returning to the scale and making weight at 158.8 pounds. With both fighters now official, Cabral has the opportunity to add championship success to his résumé in front of the hometown crowd.
The undercard features several intriguing matchups highlighted by Clinton “Native Kid” Chavez, who squares off with Wesley Vanderlinden in a battle of middleweights after both fighters weighed 159.8 pounds. Chavez will be looking to continue building momentum as one of the state’s rising professionals.
Also slated for action is Shaun Lee Henson, who weighed 159.6 pounds. His opponent, Miguel Lozano Castillo, is expected to arrive and complete weigh-ins on Friday.
Opening the professional portion of the card, David Bedai Quiros came in at 132.6 pounds for his super lightweight contest against Germob Ponce, who weighed 134.8 pounds.
