Diamond Boy Still getting on Shine at Top Rank Boxing in ABQ
Unfortunately, the Duke City Civil war has been cancelled but around the clock efforts from Legacy Promotions and Top Rank Boxing have ensured that Matthew “Diamond Boy” Griego will be a part of Saturday’s card.
A tragic incident unfolded this past Friday during a pool condition session for Abraham “Hammer” Perez leaving him fighting for his life. Monday the family and promotion announced that Abrham had come off life supports and formally withdrew from the fight. The latest update from the family on social media is that “Hammer” is eating, talking is hard, and he is starting physical therapy.
After going through a phone book worth of names, a familiar one to Burque Boxing fans and Griego answered the call, 45-fight vet Gilberto Mendoza. Griego beat Mendoza by unanimous decision in June of 2022. Mendoza last came through town in July of 2023 losing by 8th round knockout to Abraham Perez. Mendoza has been on a bit of a resurgence winning for of his last five fights.
