The Real Main Event of Bellator 138 Announced
Bellator MMA has announced that Georgi “Insane” Karakhanyan (24-4-1) will challenge Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (23-2) for the Bellator Featherweight title on June 19th in a co-headlining bout of Bellator 138.
Bellator 138 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, will also co-feature Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. Ken Shamrock, but I believe that the Featherweight title bout should garner the majority of our collective attentions; and the spotlight.
Karakhanyan and Freire are no strangers having met at Bellator 37, which concluded with Freire walking away with a 3rd round TKO victory.
Karakhanyan a former WSOF Featherweight champion successfully returned to Bellator at Bellator 132 putting Bubba Jenkins to sleep with a nasty guillotine choke. Since there first meeting Karakhanyan has won 10 of 11.
Freire is 11-2 in Bellator with both his losses coming by split decision. “Pitbull” has won 6 fights in a row with 3 knock outs and most recently made his first successful title defense with a 4th round submission of Daniel Straus in January.
Combined these two men have 35 stoppage wins.
