Cody East to make Octagon Debut at UFC 197
On the Strength of a 9 fight win streak, King of the Cage and Legacy FC Heavyweight champion Cody “The Freight Train” East (12-1) of The Duke City Wrecking Crew & JacksonWink MMA will be making his octagon debut at UFC 197, on April 23rd.
Welcoming East to the UFC will be American Top Team’s Walt “The Big Ticket” Harris (7-4). Harris stated off his career winning 6 of 7, all by knockout. Harris then got his call to the big show. After losses to Jared Rosholt and Nikita Krylov, Harris would be cut. On the Strength of a 1st round KO of DJ Linderman, Harris would get called back to the Octagon to face Soa Palelei at UFC Fight Night 55, losing by 2nd round TKO. Harris will be returning to action after missing all of 2015.
East has 11 of 12 win by stoppage, with 8 via (T)KO. “The Freight Train” has gone the distance once, back in June of 2013, when he took a unanimous decision from Nick Rossborough to become KOTC Heavyweight champion. East fought 3 times in the Legacy cage winning all 3 by TKO, including a 40 second destruction of Kevin Asplund that led to, East being signed by the UFC the same night. Also note worthy is that East is 2-1 as a pro boxer and was a very successful high school wrestler.
UFC 196 is April 23rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada; and is headlined by Jon Jones challenging Daniel Cormier for the UFC Light Heavyweight title.
